One of the delivery guys who comes here has had dachshunds and he knew we were thinking about getting another one. He asked me the other day if we had gotten him and I told him yes. Today I saw him drive up so I grabbed cooper and headed out to introduce him.
It was like a shy child. The man was talking to Cooper and Cooper buried his head on my shoulder. Cooper would glance up at him but then put his head back down so he couldn’t see the man. The man said “I’ve never seen such a shy puppy!”
Totally unrelated picture but he’s sitting by me sleeping now.
It was just a few days ago that the breeder handed him off to us and everything in his life changed. I’m wondering if he thought I was going to give him to the man and he would never see us again. Who knows but he was definitely being shy.

It is quite possible this is what he was thinking. Poor Foxy thought for months we were going to give her to someone else. I think she is pretty settled here with me and Bella. Those two had us worried with Foxy being so little and Bella being so big, but now they don’t even bother each other any longer. Foxy still gives Bella a wide berth, but that is a smart move on her part!

They do seem to adapt and learn to get along. Glad Foxy has been welcomed to the family.

My advice from owning Dachshunds for over 40 years is hand the pup off to him, strangers and anyone. Especially a friend. Then walk away around the house. Come back with a treat. Eventually they will know strangers are good and mummy always returns.

Thanks! I will do that. I believe that would have helped Oscar a lot.
