Almost two weeks ago, I saw this on the porch.
I told Vince . . I think we have a rat on the porch and asked him to set a trap. He put one of those traps that the rat has to go into so we wouldn’t catch something besides a rat. Nothing. Didn’t catch anything. We would clean the porch and a day or so later, there would be more. Then, we would clean it every day and every morning there was more. I told Vince . . maybe a bird is sitting up on the gutter. He thought that was probably right. Yesterday I walked by the front door, looked up through the transom and saw this.
I said “Vince! Come see this!” He came upstairs. I said . . is that a bat? Yes! We have a bat. I understand they do good work but he doesn’t need to be at our front door. I’ve read that moth balls and the scent of cinnamon will deter them. I’ll have to get cranking on that and see if he will find a new home.

You could make a bat box and put it out in a far corner of your yard, or contact the DNR and see what options there are to rehome it somewhere safe.
