Yesterday Vince and I took a little road trip. On our way home, we were coming up to a stoplight and I saw a Goodwill. I thought . . I would like to go in there and see if they have any nice frames but I figured Vince was ready to get home. He said “Hey! There’s a Goodwill. Would you want to stop there?” I said “YES! Thank you. I was just thinking I would like to stop there.” He was kinda shocked that I wanted to stop and shop.
Several flosstubes I watch are ladies who frame their own pieces and they’re always saying they find frames at thrift stores for $1.99 and $2.99. I never find those kinds of deals. There’s a Goodwill in Joplin and one in Carthage and I rarely find a frame at the one in Carthage. I find a few in Joplin but they’re rarely less than $10 – still less than they are most of the time at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s but never amazingly inexpensive.
We stopped at the Goodwill yesterday and I went straight to the frames. I picked up 13 frames!
See the long black one on the left? I am going to stitch And Be Kind to One Another and In All Things Be Exceedingly Diligent. Those will each finish at about 8″ x 25″ so those would be expensive frames to buy. That long black frame is 11.25″ x 35.5″. Vince looked at it and said he could cut it down. It was $2.99. I can’t believe I got that frame for that price. It will need to be repainted but I will keep it black.
The frames on the left – there are two identical frames with different pictures. They’re really pretty frames. They’re each 11.25″ x 9.5″ and neither of them need any touching up.
The other frames were all smaller. One was 4″ x 4″ and will work for a small. The others go up in size to about 8″ x 10″ but mostly odd sizes, which often work great for cross stitched pieces.
I bought 13 frames and a Debbie Macomber hard cover book I haven’t read. Vince bought two or three books, 2 DVD’s and a boom box type radio for the garage because his quit working last week. I think that’s all we bought and it was less than $50.
I was extremely happy with the things we both found. It was worth the stop!

I love the Goodwill in our town. I just have to be very selective because I have too much stuff at home already! My husband and kids won’t know where to start when I pass! Ha!

I understand and I’m in that same boat but I figure I’m going to do what I want to do while I’m here. When I’m gone . . it’s their problem. How’s that for being inconsiderate? 🙂

Congratulations! THAT was a terrific haul! You picked up some really beautiful frames – what a bonus that Vince can cut those down for you when its needed. Tomorrow I’m heading to a quilt show and after that, over to Goodwill (and a Christian thrift store if there is time) – hubby is planning on going to the Cops & Robbers car show so it will be a busy day for both of us. It will be a nice break – we’ve been working hard doing the renovations on our home & we’re both really tired of doing it. We can now see the finish line on renovations, instead of a long list of ‘things to do done’….
