As soon as we finished breakfast this morning, I started a batch of elderberry syrup. I used three cups of juice and this is the recipe I used, three times all the ingredients since I used three cups of juice instead of one cup.
There are many recipes out there but this is one we like and enjoy taking about 1 T. every day.
It’s super quick and super easy to make. We’re lucky to have several sources of honey within just a few houses of where we live. I called the guy we see most often and told him I was in no hurry but needed 5 quarts. He said he’d bottle it up within a day or so. Vince stopped by and paid him and the next day, there were 5 quarts of raw honey on my porch. Can’t beat that kind of service.
The orange thing in the back looks like a little pumpkin but it’s another orange accordion tomato.
The little salad dressing bottle is perfect for pouring out a tablespoon of the elderberry syrup. I keep the extra jar in the door of the fridge, right next to the bottle we’re pouring from so that when the small bottle needs replenishing, I don’t have to search for the larger bottle and I can keep an eye on when I need to get more juice from the fridge and make more syrup.

Hi Judy, Something entirely off subject, but haven’t heard much about Addie this summer….Has she suddenly gotten to big to visit her Granny??? Just wondering…..Dot M.in Pa….

YES! She has gotten too big to visit and I don’t like it one bit. I knew it was going to happen but didn’t expect it so soon. She has a very active social life and just couldn’t fit any time in with me this summer. 🙁

My two youngest grandchildren are just nine and we don’t see much of them any more. Admittedly they do live almost 200 mi. away but the granddaughter got onto the competitive gymnastics team and has practice twice a week and the grandson was in baseball until sometime in July. I knew it would happen too, but I thought maybe not until they were 11 or 12. Of course the three older ones are all adults now and are busy with their own lives. One has two little boys under 2 and I did see her for a little while early this month. Haven’t seen the other two since Easter. I find that when the kids or dogs no longer need sitters there isn’t much time for the old folks.

You’re right . . I’ve noticed that too. Chad and Nicole are so busy and I understand. I’m sure my grandparents said the same thing.

If they come to town for eating or shopping, I’ll go meet them or they’ll come by here but I really wanted more time with her. Glad for the time I did get and can only hope she’ll want to come here more at some point. The people buying the house behind me have grandkids. i haven’t met the people but I can hope there’s a girl near Addie’s age and they might meet and become friends.
