We were so desperate for rain. There was a big grass fire on the outskirts of Joplin this afternoon. I wasn’t concerned that it would get near us but it was a reminder that with things so dry, a wild fire could easily get going.
You know I’m always watching the weather but I’ve been busy enough lately that I haven’t checked the weather much and, when I do, it’s just to see what the high temp is going to be.
When we lived in Texas, we had something called “Code Red” that was a weather alarm that came across my phone. I have tried ever since we moved to get it turned off and have never been able to get it done.
Last night we were sitting downstairs about 10 p.m. and my phone went off with a weather alarm. I said “Oh, Brownwood must be having a storm.” I read the alert and it just said “Severe storm warning from 10:08 p.m. until 11:15 p.m. Winds in excess of 70 mph. Go to the lower level of your building.”
I went to Accuweather and saw that we did have a severe storm warning. Surprise! We each grabbed a dog and took them out for their last minute walk. It wasn’t yet raining. I jumped in the shower, Vince went to bed. By the time I got out of the shower, the wind was blowing and it was raining.
We got close to 1″ of rain but it sounds like the area north of us (where Chad is) may have had severe weather. Joplin has a whole lot of people without power and winds there were 80+ mph.
Thankful for the rain but sorry for those who had damage. I’m going to have to pay more attention to the weather. This time of year, it’s easy to forget to check on things other than the temp.

We really need rain too, but on Tuesday we had a nasty storm roll through about 11 PM. Unfortunately we had a lightning strike so this past week we’ve been dealing with fixing/replacing things damaged by that lightning. But we did get an inch of much needed rain with it, and another 1/4″ yesterday.

So sorry about your lightning damage.

In Carthage we also had storms last night, high winds and lots of rain. Vietnamese have already started arriving for their celebration of Marian Days and many are camping on the grounds. Hopefully, all are okay. The grounds and food tents are alway open to the public. The first day for the food tents is Thursday but you have to park and walk to the grounds where the food tents are.

We’ve never been and I would love to go but doubt we’ll go this year. We were by the church week before last and there were tons of tents already up!

So was Chad called out to fix things nearby this time?

He wasn’t called out Sunday night. The storm came through close to 11 p.m. Not sure where he worked Monday but Nicole said he wasn’t going to be home til about 11 p.m. I haven’t talked to him but I think all the power was restored in our area by this evening.
