I will be the first to admit that there could be lots of improvement in what we eat but simply because we rarely eat out so we control what we eat and the ingredients that go into what we eat.
I don’t want this to be a “preachy” post and I’m guessing there are people who eat junk food their entire lives and they live long and happy lives but . . my feeling is that we truly are what we eat (and, in my case, what we drink). As for us, we need to do better.
This guy, Dr. Suneel Dhand, has so many videos and I like him a lot.
I’m sharing this video because I feel many of us just do not realize how bad some of the foods that we eat are for us.
While traveling last week, we would go into convenience type stores for bathrooms. I realize most of us are not buying our weekly groceries from the convenience store, but seeing the lines of people in there buying junk food was eye opening. Hopefully, most of us do crazy things while traveling and don’t consume those foods every day.
If you’re inclined to watch this video, it may be a good reminder that some of us need to do better.
I always tell Vince . . and I could easily be wrong . . but my grandparents ate bacon and butter and drank whole milk from the cow, my grandma often had a pie or cake for dessert but most everything they ate was from what they grew on the farm.
Vince and I are trying to eat out less – not because we’re opposed to eating out, but because we want to have more control over the ingredients that go into what we eat.
Watching that video this morning was really an eye opener for me. Most of it was not new to me but it all kinda hit home after the trip to Louisiana and we ate out so much . . though most of it was not fast food, but when out of town, it’s hard to prepare every meal yourself.
Anyway . . this video kinda revived my interest in doing better with what we eat.

With the cancer, I’ve had a sharp wake-up call. Not because any of that caused the cancer, since I’ve always been pretty decent about choosing things that weren’t junk, but because I hadn’t realized how much can creep into your diet under the guise of science-sounding names, or hidden behind other things. They may label everything, but they don’t use common language we all understand!

Exactly! To me, it’s just easier to cook from scratch than trying to figure out what’s in the food on the shelves or in the freezer section.

Oh, I like this man! Thanks for sharing that video. It goes right along with what I was saying, and what I think and have learned.

Yes, I haven’t watched a single video of his that I don’t agree with and learn something from. I wish we actually had more doctors who think like he thinks.

So do I! I hear my friends talk about their experiences, and there are a lot of “blame the victim” doctors, especially when people are overweight – they don’t even read what the patient has written, just start out telling them to diet! That isn’t always the problem. I’ve been so fortunate in both my GP, who saved my life, making me get a biopsy when I didn’t see a good reason, and my cancer team. They are ALL great doctors and patient friendly. But so many stories I hear are the exact opposite. This guy hit it on all points with me.

We’ve been pretty disappointed in the doctors here.

Thanks for the video! I’ve always read food labels.Read the ingredients in a flour or corn tortilla, you will be surprised! Trader Joe’s has corn tortillas that say corn, lime and water, other ones have ten or more ingredients !

I grind the wheat or corn for the flour and make my own tortillas. They’re so easy to make and I know exactly what’s in them.

… I agree that is a scarey looking list of ingredients. To be fair, that is a mix of snacks and it shows the ingredients for pretzels, bagel chips, cheddar crackers etc. I’ve had that snack and they taste really good which is the whole problem.. I watch a lot of YouTube with doctors contadicting each other on what to eat but they all seem to agree that procesed foods are probably causing our health problems. I wonder if history will show that our grandparents lived longer than this generation even with all our miracle drugs.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
Yes but when I make pretzels, bagels or crackers, about 90% of those ingredients are not in the ones I make. I agree that doctors are contradicting each other on youtube but for those who see several doctors in real life, the same things happen. I’m quite sure every doctor is doing what he feels is right but we have to be our own advocates. We have to do our own research and make decisions based on what we believe (just like there are drugs many folks take that, whether right or wrong, I will not take). I feel like a huge percentage of our medical problems are related to what we consume, as well as the amount we’re consuming.
I am thankful for so many modern day medications and medical solutions but I think, society as a whole, has learned to eat whatever we see that looks good and easy and we’re going to pay a price for that.
