Oh, my goodness . . Nicole and I should never be left alone. We left Missouri yesterday morning at 7:15 a.m. on about a 10 hour trip. Somehow, with just two quick stops, it took us a bit over 13 hours. As far as we know, we didn’t get lost but I think we could have taken a better route. I told Nicole . . this is NOT the way I go and it is NOT the way you and I went last time. She said “Well, the GPS hasn’t been updated in at least three years. I told her I’m picking the route we take home. I knitted til we got within an hour of my uncle’s and then I wasn’t quite sure about the instructions so I put it down til I could watch the video.
This morning Nicole, Addie and I went to the grocery store as soon as we got up. I made biscuits, sausage and gravy for our breakfast. Then I cooked a late dinner – chicken with artichokes and spinach in a sauce with cheese and wine. We also had lima beans and brussels sprouts. The funny thing was that yesterday we were talking about my garden and my uncle said there’s only one vegetable he will NOT eat and that’s brussels sprouts. Nicole and I both said “NO!! We have a recipe you have to try.” Chad slices the brussels sprouts in half, I cut mine into thin slices but then we saute them in butter and cajun seasoning, then drizzle a balsamic reduction over them. I told my uncle I would make it today and he had to at least try them.
He tasted them and said “they’re ok” but then later, he started laughing and said “Can I please have more brussels sprouts?” He truly liked them so now, there are no vegetables he doesn’t like.
He’s always had internet at his house. He doesn’t use the internet at all. His wife did but she’s been gone for six years so he had it turned off. I am lost without it so blog posts may be a bit sparse til I get home (Thursday).
Vince assures me Oscar is doing fine and not missing me at all.
We had a good rain here this afternoon. I love southwest Louisiana rain. It happens so often and I miss rainy days. We will never move back to Louisiana but after having lived here the first 40 something years of my life, being here will always feel like home, no matter how much this city has changed . . this is truly where my best friends are, where the restaurants I love are — and where so many of my memories happened. I will enjoy my time here, be a little sad to leave but will be super happy to get back home to Vince and my sweet Oscar.

That’s how I feel about places in Arizona, mostly Phoenix and Tucson, but the reservation where I first taught, too. A friend is in Phoenix this week, and she said looking out the plane window as they landed, she could tell this was my place and where I belonged. Tennessee is wonderful, but too wet and humid. 91 was an excessive heat warning today, and the humidity was 67%. I wonder what would happen at higher humidity! LOL I just don’t go outside much on days like today, but I did spend the whole day on a “runaway” with a good friend. I wanted to have a good day before chemo side effects hit tomorrow, late.
