Oscar had to go to the vet this morning to get his ears checked. The right ear is the one causing a problem and it still isn’t clear but it’s way better so we can stop putting the one med in and use the cleaning solution once a week and go back if it gets worse.
Speaking of worse . . Oscar was in rare form this morning. I broke a Benadryl in half and gave that to him with just a little food this morning. About 10 minutes later, he threw up the food and the Benadryl pieces. I didn’t want to risk trying to give him more and he was quite a little crazy guy at the vet. Now, we have to give him a prescription anxiety pill before he goes back.
He’s 14 pounds had on a muzzle and had three techs trying to hold him while the vet looked in his ears. He was ready to take someone’s head off. I apologized and Vince said “There was a nice, docile one in the litter. We should have chosen that one.” The vet said “I see a lot more dachshunds that act like Oscar than I see nice, docile ones.”
On the way home, we went by the park and walked with him. He was fine there . . we were the only ones out there. He worked off some of his anxiety and he walked fast. Vince and I were both walking at a much brisker pace to keep up with him. We decided bringing him to walk with us is better for us and for him.
He’s sleeping beside me now . . I hope for the rest of the day but knowing Oscar, he needs a 5 minute nap and he’ll be at it again.

Poor Oscar! At least the vet didn’t seemed phased by a wiggly, not happy dog.

No. She didn’t flinch when he kept trying to snap at her. She was kind and gentle with him.

I always took my anxious dog (Kelly) to McDonalds after the vet to get him a cheeseburger less the pickles, onions and ketchup after the vets. I would break it in pieces and he would eat it in the car. That helped after a few trips to the vets.
