I am 100% sure everyone thinks their dog is the cutest and the smartest and the sweetest. I always think Oscar is the cutest. Sometimes I wonder about his intelligence and sometimes, sweet is real hard to find in that boy!
I bought a bell that you tap and it rings. I wanted to train him to tap it when he wants a treat. I know . . bad idea . . but I saw someone else’s dachshund tapping a bell like that with his foot and he would tap, tap, tap til the lady came with a treat. Of course, Oscar is afraid of it. It’s been sitting in the middle of the floor for two weeks now and he isn’t taking such a long way around it any more but he still won’t get near it.
Last night he was sitting on Vince’s lap. Vince sits in the recliner. I sit in the love seat to the left of the recliner. There’s a little free standing shelf unit that sits between the recliner and the love seat . . mostly to keep Oscar from going behind the chair and love seat. Last night he was messing with something on one of the shelves and I told him “No!” He didn’t stop so I said it again with more force.
He immediately stopped messing with whatever he was messing with on the shelf, instead of standing and stretching to reach the shelf, he went down and started looking at the TV like “I have no idea why you’re fussing at me.” He wouldn’t even look at me. Suddenly, he was very interested in NASCAR. 🙂
I started laughing and he did this.
It’s like he’s saying “I’m such a good boy . . I don’t know why you raised your voice at me!”
I love this little dog so much. He keeps me laughing . . when I’m not chasing him down to retrieve something he’s taken and is running off with. Yes, he’s high strung. Yes, taking him to the vet is more of a hassle than I ever dreamed a small dog could be but he really is such a good little companion. He has so much personality. Every day, I look at him and say “There’s a whole lot of dog in that little body!”
I still think we should get another dachshund. Oscar loves to play and he drives poor Boots crazy. I wish Boots would put Oscar in his place but Boots is too sweet. If I knew we could get a dachshund that has a personality similar to Oscar’s and loves to play as much as Oscar does, I’d do it. If we got one that was timid and let Oscar bully him, that might not work out so well. I think a second dog might mean marital problems so I best not mention that idea to Vince. But . . IF a dachshund showed up on my doorstep, I’d have to keep him, right? 🙂

Hi Judy! We got our little Sunny 3 weeks ago. She is 11 weeks old and we love her dearly.
She’s a GoldenDoodle and when grown should be about 50 or so pounds. I am so pleased with her but her little puppy teeth (think piranha) are so sharp and I am keeping the Band-Aid company in business until we get through the jumping and nipping stage.
Her antics keep us in stitches. If this puppy training doesn’t do us in, we will be stronger and younger than before!!
Love your Oscar tales!

I do remember those days. Vince and I were constantly bleeding. So glad those days are behind us. Before you know it, they’ll be done for you too.

Our little old lady Emmi has had a rough week–two trips to the vet, one IV, not eating anything for almost a week, she’s been so sick. But–we think she is on the mend–she ate last night–some stinky, nasty “Recovery” dog food the vet gave me. I mixed a small amount of it with her own food and she ate–I cried I was so relieved. Then she went to the mud room where we keep kibble in her bowl all the time and ate the small amount that was in the bowl.
