If you know much about me, you know my cell phones take a lot of abuse and, partly for that reason, we don’t buy expensive phones. Honestly, I think a $150 cell phone is expensive but I know compared to many, it isn’t expensive at all.
Just like a car is a vehicle to get me from here to there and as long as my car does that, and the air conditioner and radio work, I’m perfectly fine with it, no matter the age. All I need a cell phone to do is make calls and take pictures. I don’t do a lot with the phones and I am not one who has it attached to me at all times. There are days I have no idea where the phone is. Most of my old phones will still take decent pictures so I have several handy at all times.
Anyway, yesterday while I was on a long phone call with one of the insurance companies, the call dropped. At home, we have to use wifi calling or the phone doesn’t work at all. The phone had disconnected itself from wifi calling and wouldn’t re-connect. I turned the phone off and back on. I checked all the settings. I rebooted the router . . nothing worked. It would connect to the internet. I could get mail but I couldn’t get it to connect to wifi calling. I handed it to Vince and he messed with it. We went to the Cricket store, several folks there worked on it and nope, it was done with wifi calling. Since it wouldn’t connect to wifi, I basically had no phone while we were at home so we had to get another phone.
The nice lady transferred a lot of my stuff but a few of the things I use every day didn’t transfer – the app that works the thermostat for the a/c; the app where I can see all the security cameras, the app for my cross stitch charts . . good grief . . those are the main apps. Vince got the security camera and the thermostat apps installed. I got the cross stitch app installed.
The old phone isn’t a year old so we’ll get it replaced and use it for a backup.
I think the only thing I still have to do is get the printer to working with the phone. I would be super happy if this phone lasted forever and I never have to go through all this again but, I’m betting it doesn’t last forever. I guess, with my record, I should be happy if it’s still working by the end of 2023. 🙂

I know my phone is at least a couple of years old now, if not older. I have dropped it or had it fall out of my pocket mores times than I can count on both hands. A few cracks in the screen protector, but it still works great, so I keep it.

You’re doing better than I am. I got the previous phone in August so it didn’t even make it a year. It’s in a super heavy duty case and it actually has no cracks or dents but . . it’s history!

I buy another iPhone when they stop supporting the one I’m using. I usually buy a reconditioned one, because I’m not paying the price a new one costs. It’s a phone, for crying out loud! I am still happy with my iPhone 7 that I’ve had for at least 3 years – otter box protects it, and I rarely drop it.
I check the weather, make a few calls, text a lot, check my bank account, and have church and genealogy apps. I take photos … that’s about it. Someone wanted me to sign up for an app today to play games with her, and I said no thanks. I don’t have time to waste like that! Why would I pay $1200 or more for a phone? Insane!
Both the boys have Android models of some kind, different companies to suit their different uses, but that phone drives me crazy, so I stick with the apple product, which my 2012 computer also is. Probably time to get another one of those, but I like the version I have, so I’m putting it off. Besides, doctors keep thinking I should pay THEM.
