I really do not HAVE to sneak my purchases into the house but with Vince home these days, let’s just say life is less complicated if I don’t flaunt my purchases. For the most part, all the yard work in the back yard is my job – vegetables, flowers that are supposed to deter pesky bugs, herbs, elderberries, etc. Everything in the front yard, native flower beds, fruit trees, raspberries, sassafras trees, chinquapins . . that’s all his projects. The mail box is in the front of the house and I’m not sure if Vince is trying to test me or if it’s purely accidental but he’s outside every time the mail lady comes by . . if I have packages.
Every day I check Informed Delivery and know what’s coming. Yesterday I had three packages coming. There’s not much opportunity for distraction around here. In Texas, our mail lady knew that boxes from yarn shops got stuck under a tree way away from the mail box. That’s a luxury I don’t have here. The packages go in the mail box and if they don’t fit, they go on the porch.
Vince and I ended up making several trips to Carthage yesterday and by the time we got home, I was sure the packages would be in the mail box. Vince stopped to get the mail . . I knew he would give me a hard time about three packages being in the box but he’s just joking so it doesn’t bother me. But, there were a couple of envelopes and no packages. I went in and checked Informed Delivery. “Delivered at mailbox.”
I called the post office. I know they’re as tired of hearing from me as I am having to track down my packages. This seems to happen way too often. They are delivering our packages to the person on the street behind us who has the same house number as we do – different street though. The lady at the post office said “I’ll get in touch with your carrier!” In about 15 minutes, my packages were delivered to the door. Of course, Vince was the one inside and he answered the door. When I came back inside, he said “your packages are here”. He knew I was having to call the post office. He said “You have a missing package again?” I casually said “three”. How’s that for an ice breaker? 🙂
One of the packages was from 123 Stitch. I couldn’t remember ordering anything from them . . but that didn’t mean I hadn’t ordered something. It was one skein of floss – must have been one that was part of a larger order and had been back ordered. I would not have ordered one skein of floss.
The other two were much more exciting packages – even though floss is exciting!
One was from XJuDesign. I love her linen so much!
Left to right: Autumn Gold, Pumpkin, Dewberry and Squirrel – all 40 count. When I opened the package I was kinda surprised because I don’t buy a lot of colored linen. I love all these.
The other package was from Country Sampler for the Girls’ Club Threads of History kit. I look so forward to these kits. The folks at Country Sampler do such a great job. This was the last kit for the 2022-2023 series. The new season will include designs from The Wishing Thorn, Running with Needles and Scissors, Cross Stitch Antiques and Needlework Press. I’m excited to see every single piece over the next year.
But, for the last piece for this year, it was Jane Williams 1838 by The Scarlett House.
This is going to be a fun one to stitch! Love the border. Love the colors. I may end up changing to a lighter linen. The called for linen is Baked Clay by Fox & Rabbit, and that’s what’s provided but . . I’ll think about that when it’s closer to time to stitch this beauty.
Even though there was a slight delay, I was nervous about whether these packages were lost, and Vince saw it all in real time, it was a great mail day.

Every time a package shows up at our door I get a “Now what?” from the husband… I don’t order nearly as much fabric as I used to, and even though a small quilt shop moved in just 15 minutes from home, I’ve tried to cut back a lot on my purchases. We’re retired, and I now have enough fabric to last till my 385th birthday, so I really don’t need anymore. Now I generally buy only what I need for a specific project if I don’t already have it in my stash. Wish me luck on continuing to do just that! 🙂

It is. I have to finish some projects before I can think of starting something on it but I keep thinking about projects. Any suggestion?
