Right off the bat when I started back to cross stitching, I realized that not all cross stitch linen is created equally. I ordered several pieces in the beginning and those that were not Zwiegart base are difficult for me to use. I’m sure there are people who love those and dislike the Zwiegart base linen so I’m not saying one is bad and one is good but I definitely have my preference.
I’m in the Fox & Rabbit Patreon group and we get two fat quarters per quarter. Mine arrived today and they used a different base. It’s always been Zwiegart but this one is not. I don’t even remember what base it is. They talked about it on one of their floss tubes.
I have a project that I want to use a yellow-ish linen and I had pulled the one on the right but when Eureka arrived today, it was somewhat similar and it’s a smaller piece so I wouldn’t have to cut the larger piece for this project. When I picked up the Eureka to measure it, I thought . . this is thin and then I realized it is not Zwiegart base. Zwiegart fabrics have an orange thread running through the selvage.
Linen is, by its nature, thin and you can see through it but this new base is too thin for me. You can see the pink box through the one on the right but you can almost read through the one on the left.
I think Fox & Rabbit said they are not sending the new base to shops but, just a word of caution, if you like the thicker Zwiegart base, you may want to be sure that’s what you’re getting.
I may use the two pieces that arrived today for smalls but I may send them on to someone who doesn’t mind this brand of base linen. It’s not my cup of tea. Again . . not a bad linen at all. Some people I’m sure prefer it over Zwiegart.

I found that linen is too thin for me. I have switched to using laguna and been much happier. Hope Fox and Rabbit go back to their original fabric! Love your posts!

They’ve never “left” the Zwiegart base. I think they ordered the Permin just to have a backup for when/if they can’t get Zwiegart. A reader left a comment that they discussed it in their Fosstube #33, about minute 34. This apparently is not going to be their main linen and I was kinda surprised that, as Patreon members, it’s what we got but .. their business, their choice.

As you said F+R commented in their #33 flosstube minute 34. It’s a Permin base they said. I have other permin linens and do not show through so much. If it’s so thin it would not be my cup of tea either. Thanks for commenting. B.regards from Spain.
