I’m not one to never think twice about how things happen in my life. Sometimes, things happen and while I am not going to say it’s divine intervention, it just seems that weird, funny, hard to believe things happen to me.
There’s a custard place in Carthage and seriously, it’s like eating a big bowl of real whipped cream with sugar and fruit. It’s the creamiest, sweetest, most delicious stuff ever. We don’t go that often but then everyone probably has their own definition of “that often”. It’s been over a month since we’ve been.
The real problem is that it’s right next to Walmart and Lowe’s in Carthage and those are the two places we go most often.
We all know there’s nothing healthy about frozen custard but having it every now and then . . we had convinced ourselves that it was ok but we know there’s no place for that on the keto diet.
Last night we had this conversation:
Vince: Is there anything you really miss?
Me: Rice, gravy, baked potatoes, potato chips, custard, bread, hamburgers, fried fish . .
Vince: What do you miss most?
Me: At this very minute . . custard!
Vince: We will get custard for your birthday (June).
I told him . . no . . I want us to stay on the diet and some day we’ll get custard.
I went on to tell him that I don’t want to go to Walmart or Lowe’s in Carthage til I’m off the diet. But, that’s not true. I do have a bit of willpower.
This morning I was reading through Facebook and there was a post from the custard shop. They are closing! It wasn’t a sad post because they’ve purchased a local restaurant and, probably wisely decided to give up the custard shop. They didn’t sell it (as far as I know they didn’t try to sell it) and it’s just closing in a little over a week. How’s that for getting rid of the temptation?
We’ve eaten at the restaurant they bought once, but we’ll go back and try it again after the new owners have taken it over.
We’ll always remember how great the custard was but we’re looking forward to an ‘under new management’ retaurant.

That’s a lot of willpower for you to not go to it one last time. I’d be in the car after reading about the closing!!

I’m tempted to go one more time but I’d be sorry I did it.

I saw in your food you miss list, chips. Have you tried or seen the “cottage cheese” chips? I follow The Keto Twins on youtube, they have posted about them and they look promising for chip replacements.

When we’re doing keto, we try to stick with just basic foods like my grandma would have eaten. We don’t buy (or bake) keto desserts or snacks so, at least for now, we’re not buying those kinds of things but . . never say never. I have not seen those, nor have I tried them but I’ll tuck that idea away and may end up doing it.

=How about chaffles? Nothing Grandma would have made, but also nothing that she didn’t use!

Yes, we’ve been having chaffles.

Maybe they’ll have custard at the restaurant occasionally.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
They may. I did think of that.

I too would have been in the car as soon as I read they were closing! LOL I could rationalize that away in a heartbeat! 🙂
