To get the full belly laugh from this incident, please remember that Vince’s language can be quite colorful and, to be honest, it causes a few minor problems around here sometimes. I was raised in a strict Baptist home and even the “not so bad” bad words were not allowed . . EVER!
Yesterday I got a call from the nurse that I needed to go back on thyroid meds. My TSH was pretty high. Vince and I had already been to town once but we had to go back to Walmart to get my Rx.
The last time my car was filled up with gas was before Christmas and it was down to half a tank so I said “Let’s take my car and fill it up with gas.” Vince said “Fine . . you drive.” So, I was driving.
We’re going down the road and had this conversation:
Vince: What will these meds do?
Me: Give me more energy.
Y’all! I looked at him and he had a real look of fear on his face.
He said “I’m ****** (bad, bad word)!
I started laughing – not because of the word but because of the look on his face. He was truly contemplating how on earth he could live with me if I have more energy. Then he said “I think I’m going to have to move out!” He was joking (I hope).
I told him . . it isn’t easy being me. Do you know how hard it is for me to sit in the car for an hour or 12 hours to get to Louisiana? Do you know how hard it is for me to sit down and eat a meal without jumping up and running off to do something or get something? Do you know how many times I start folding a load of laundry, get sidetracked and go back to it . . over and over again before I get the one load folded and put away?
To some – I know because some of you tell me – having the energy I have is a good thing. Living with it all day every day . . not always a good thing. I wish I could turn it on and off – I need to go out and play with Oscar . . turn it on. I need to get the laundry folded and put away before starting something else . . turn it off. Pull weeds in the garden . . turn it on! That’s not an option so I live with it and find ways to keep myself busy. All in all, I’d rather have too much energy than not enough.

I wish I had half the energy you have. I have been on thyroid meds for about 20 years still waiting for it to kick in for more energy. Of course I am still waiting for the cortisone shots they put in my shoulder a good 10 years ago to work also. You are just the energizer bunny to say the least. Hope this brings your levels back to “normal”.

I’m afraid the meds will cause more energy. That’s what happens usually when I take them. I’ll take them for 6 weeks, then go back for bloodwork and they’ll take me off of them. That’s been the way it works since about 1999.

Amen, but we don’t get to choose. =P

My thyroid works backwards, most people get their T4 fixed/meds and then they are good. Not mine, I need my T3 fixed and then my T4 follows. My original Dr. who diagnosed me, said “Oh, you are one of those” … I have always been “one of those” . Took a while to figure it out.

I’m glad they figured it out! Sounds like you had/have a good doctor.

I had a mental picture of Vince’s face when you told him you’d have more energy! Sure enjoyed the laugh! I’m glad you have so much energy — I do fairly well unless I haven’t had enough water or its too hot outside. Our family is always telling both of us to stop working so hard but that’s the way we’ve always done things — for the last 49+ years!

I still laugh thinking about looking over at him and the look on his face.

Oh Judy thanks for the laugh, Vince’s face must of been a hoot.
My reply is what is energy?, I have none, just had bloods done, too low sodium , low vitamin D & too high platelets, left GP scratching head. My response, send me to the Bahamas for 2 months on energy pillls of any description. No such luck, waiting to see what they want me to take aaah.
Tell Vince he’s lucky you could be an insomniac as well as too much energy? can imagine what his response would be ???
judy.blog@gmail.com says
What? You totally chose the wrong solution. You should have asked him to send you to Missouri, USA! 🙂 Of course, I doubt he’s sending you to the Bahamas either.
My D levels are always low. I’ll take 50,000 IU once a week for 6 weeks, they do bloodwork, it’s good, get off those and go back to 2,000 IU every day, do bloodwork again in 6 months and it’s low again, back on 50,000 IU once a week.
I hope they can find answers for you and your energy is back.

I wish I had half your energy! I’ve been on thyroid meds for over 20 years…I guess that side effect hasn’t kicked in yet. LOL!! Vince and my husband would be a great pair in the language department! Hahaha!!

I’ve only taken two so I haven’t seen any changes yet, although I think it was after 3 a.m. before I went to sleep last night. That’s what usually causes me to stop taking them.

I’ve recently dealt with ‘having no energy’. It’s terrible! I don’t have your energy, but it sure is nice to be getting back to normal, excited about house cleaning and piecing quilts again!!
judy.blog@gmail.com says
I need what you’re taking because I don’t think I’ve ever gotten excited about cleaning house!
I’m glad you have your energy back.
