In the cross stitch world, May is known as Stitch Maynia or just plain Maynia. As I understand it, those participating in Maynia commit to trying to get a lot of stitching done. They will plan and make lists and flosstubes about what they intend to stitch. I think it was Tuesday when I began seeing flosstubes about Maynia and, of course, I decided to do it. I did it last year and . . surprise . . didn’t stay on track but heck, why not try it again.
I started making a list. I was thinking I would choose 10 projects to work on, each for three days. At first, I thought I would stitch five new starts and work on five WIPs. Then, I noticed how many projects I have on frames and how few empty frames I have (NOT five!) and I decided I would just work on 10 WIPs, except I already have two new starts planned for May. Both of those are already on frames so . . not a problem . . I would work on two new starts and eight wips.
I grabbed my stitching journal and then I came to my senses . . no! I will do what I’ve been planning. I will work on the two new starts I have planned; I will work on For the Love of Nature and I will work on Because of You.
I did decide this: From about 6 p.m. til midnight is when I get almost all my daily stitching done. I will stitch for a few minutes in the morning and sometimes for a few minutes in the afternoon but right now, with the garden, the flowers, the dogs . . there’s just not a lot of stitching time during the day so here’s what I’m going to do and we’ll see how this works.
My new starts for May are:
- May 1 – This I Know
- May 15 – Beloved
- Weekend Project – For the Love of Nature til it’s finished
- Extra Project – Because of You
New Plan:
- Daytime all days – Because of You
- 6 p.m. til bedtime weekdays – This I know and Beloved
- Weekends – For the Love of Nature
If, at the end of May, I feel like I’m not getting enough stitched on Because of You, I may have to make some changes because I do want that finished by our anniversary.
Sound like a good plan?

I envy your ability to make plans and at least try to stick to them! I’m horrible at doing any of that, and my house and my life are prime examples. My house looks like I’m a hoarder (especially with my fabrics) and is in a complete state of mayhem. My exercise plan has not been started yet, even though I planned to start it several weeks ago. Currently I’m using covid as my excuse, but I really shouldn’t. I don’t feel that bad – I’m just downright lazy!!! I did manage to get a loaf of bread raising, but only because I’m still under quarantine until Monday, and the loaf in the house is old and almost gone…. One of these days I will actually start on a list and stick with it…hopefully before I die! 🙂

I always tell people I’m so unorganized, I look like I’m organized. Without a list, I’d spend the day walking through the grocery store and picking up everything we don’t need or, not figuring out anything we need. That’s why I make a menu plan and a grocery list and if it’s not on the list, it doesn’t come home with us (unless Vince is shopping with me). Same thing for stitching plans. If I didn’t make a plan and stick with it, I’d spend all day shopping for new charts or looking at linen online. I really don’t function well at all without lists and very specific plans.
