First, before anyone asks, Rita and Boots are fine. Rita just wants to be left alone. She eats, she goes out. There’s not much interaction and she seems to like it best that way. Boots is a funny cat. It doesn’t matter if I go into the sewing room 10 times a day or once a day. He’s always happy to see me but he’s always happy to see me leave. He can come and go out of the sewing room (except at night we close the door). It seems that Boots has gotten less apprehensive about Oscar. I think Boots has finally learned that he can always get away. Oscar seems to have learned there’s no use chasing Boots because (1) he doesn’t want to play and (2) Boots can always get away because he can jump up on things and Oscar cannot. They really are moving closer to just ignoring each other.
Oscar is still a wild dog but we can go out and play in his little “playground” and we can run off some of that energy.
Vince usually goes to bed before I do and when I go to take a shower, I have to put Oscar in the crate because he knows he’s unsupervised with Vince in bed and me in the shower and he will get into things I had no idea he would get into but the last two nights, Oscar was sleeping in Vince’s chair and he looked pretty much out for the night so I left him sleeping, took my shower, came out and he was still sleeping in the chair. Yay! He’s growing up.
He still loves to chew on his bones but he hasn’t chewed on things he isn’t supposed to chew on. I keep a close watch on him and try to keep things out of his reach but I haven’t had to get on him about chewing on furniture or other things. He still looks for floss to grab. I think that’s mostly because he knows I’ll chase him to get it.
He goes to the vet next week for his annual. I’ll be interested to see if he’s lost weight. His harness is quite loose. He still seems way heavy but his body has matured. He still sits with me almost any time I’m sitting in my chair. In the evenings Vince will sit down in the floor and Oscar loves to stretch out next to Vince’s legs.
He’s such a great little pet and will be even greater when he calms down just a bit more!

So fun to have furry family members! Our dear GoldenDoodle, Sophie, passed away this past Monday. We got her when she was 8 weeks old and she would have been 10 at the end of May. Needless to say, our hearts are broken. In order not to wallow in my sadness, I keep reminding myself that she didn’t suffer and the amount of joy she brought to us and our community was immeasurable. We gave her a life filled with our love as well as love from almost every person who knew her.
Which brings me to the fact that we NEED to get another dog. Not just a dog, but a puppy. I am 10 years older than the last time we got a puppy and I remember how much energy is necessary to raise a puppy. We will try to bring a new GoldenDoodle puppy into our lives this fall. I need to heal as quickly as possible from my second knee replacement so that I can keep up. (If you are wondering why I keep saying “I”, it’s because it will be me who does the training!!!). My hubby will be the “dog walker”, but the training falls on mama!
Keep sharing your stories and silly things Oscar brings into your lives.
By the way, we have a cat-Tiger Lily who rules the roost. She misses her Sophie, too. They had a special relationship, too.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s hard losing a beloved pet. Good luck with the recovery and finding the perfect puppy and, of course, good luck with the training. I’ll be anxious to hear how Tiger Lily reacts to a new puppy. It will surely be different for her having a puppy vs. Sophie.
