I think today is going to be a sit in my chair and stitch day . . after I finish planting potatoes.
We’ve been needing to defrost one of our big freezers. We used to buy only manual defrost but during the “you know what” when freezers were hard to find and we need two new ones, we took what we could get and they were frost free and now, I’m very thankful to have those.
It seemed like every day we came up with an excuse not to defrost that freezer. Friday, Vince said “Let’s defrost the freezer.” I said “Let’s wait. The trash man comes on Thursday so if we put food in there (and there’s always some unidentifiable something that has to go in the trash), it will be pretty ripe by next Thursday.”
Saturday, Vince said “It’s a pretty day. We should probably do it. We can put any food we’re throwing out in the cooler and keep ice on it til the trash man comes.” Then Chad called to see if Vince wanted to go fishing on Sunday so Vince had other things to do on Saturday to get ready to go fishing. Men! So, the freezer didn’t get defrosted.
Sunday was the fishing trip.
Monday . . get ‘r done! As soon as we woke up, I said “Let’s do it before we talk ourselves out of it.” Vince said “Let’s have breakfast first.” I said “How about we get everything out and in coolers and it can be left to defrost while I fix breakfast?” That’s what we did. It is so nice to have it clean and organized again. We filled up 5 or 6 coolers so it was pretty full. One thing for sure – I won’t need frozen pineapple juice for a very long time. Why do I have so much? I did make a pitcher of pineapple juice to have with breakfast today (which we haven’t had yet!).
The funny thing was I took the temperature alarm out of the freezer, turned the volume off so it wouldn’t scare me half to death when the temp got to the point of sounding the alarm, and set it on the shelf next to the freezer. We did everything we had to do, got it all cleaned out, wiped dry. Turned it on, loaded it back up and went downstairs. After a while, I went upstairs and noticed the temp alarm. It showed 71 degrees. I was about to panic because it had been several hours since I had been downstairs and the freezer was full of food. I knew it wouldn’t all be defrosted but a few hours in a freezer that was warm . . not good. I went over to the freezer to make sure I had turned it back on and saw the temperature alarm still sitting on the shelf next to the freezer . . in the rather warm garage. Whew! That was good. I turned the sound back on and stuck it in the freezer and in no time, it was down to 3 degrees and probably went lower.
Vince said he would eat the mussels and scallops today. I don’t like to keep seafood long in the fridge and we already have plans for Wednesday. Monday to Thursday is longer than I’m comfortable keeping it so he’ll eat that. I’ll find something to eat so no cooking except for breakfast.
Somehow . . I’m betting something happens that takes me away from stitching but that’s the plan for today.

I always had to buy pineapple juice when I made fake crushed pineapple to can. You make it with zucchini and pineapple juice, plus a couple other things, I think. When I use it to make baked pineapple, my hubby couldn’t tell the difference… and if he knows something has zucchini in it, he won’t touch it! LOL!!

That may be why I bought it but I’m thinking I used canned pineapple juice. Yes, that pineapple zucchini is pretty good and why I planted some today!

Just courious, can you freeze dry juice or is it worth it?

You can but to me it isn’t worth it. Some people will freeze dry broth too but I haven’t and probably won’t.
