These are pictures many of you have seen . . probably more than once. I loved that dog so much and never thought there would be another one that would be as special but I do believe that little rascal, Oscar, is just as special and just as much loved as Speck was.
Speck always wanted to play chase. Is that all dogs or more a dachshund trait? Oscar is the same way. If I’m carrying laundry to be washed, or even clean laundry to fold and I drop a sock, Oscar grabs it and runs and runs. All I have to do is act like I’m going to chase him and he keeps running. I know that sooner or later, he’ll get tired and stop. That’s about the only way I can catch him. Oscar will also grab any piece of paper he can find but with that, he stops just far enough from me that he is sure I can’t reach him and he begins shredding it.
I guess they learn how to pull our chains. I always kept my purse on the floor by the desk in the breakfast room. I always stuck my paper money in a side pocket of my purse instead of trying to stuff it back in my wallet. Speck knew if he grabbed cash, I was going to chase him so the minute I turned my back, he was rummaging through my purse. In the bottom photo, he had a dollar bill and was trying to get me to chase him.
Speck was such a good dog. I’ll always miss him but Oscar is my . . not perfect but about as perfect as a dachshund can be . . companion now.

Speck was beautiful and special in his own way

Speck is a Pie/Dapple. Oscar is a Pie, so they have the same traits. Both are smooth coat so that’s more of the ball tossing/fetch and energy. I’ve always found it amazing how the colour/coat/pattern plays in a pups personality but I see it with Dachshunds. I’m so pleased you are delighted with him. I love my longdog crew.

I’m not sure there’s a dachshund out there I wouldn’t be delighted with. Love their big personalities.
