We need a new crock pot/slow cooker. I know the Instant Pot will perform that task but I have several recipes where things need to be spread out more and when I’m making bone broth, there are sometimes long bones and I feel like I can do more with the oblong type pot.
When we lived in MO the first time, I had a very old crock pot and had put dinner it in and left to run to the store. When I came back, it was smoking and smelled like something was burning so I guess I bought my “new” crock pot back then and that was probably 14 years ago. I surely don’t use it every day but I use it often enough that I don’t feel like it was a bad deal even if it lasted only 14 years (and three moves).
I don’t need a terribly expensive one. I see some over $600 – just an average, work horse type slow cooker.
Any recommendations? If you have negative thoughts on any of them, please email those to me and do not post them in comments so as not to aggravate the powers that be! Thanks.

I’ve had my crock pot for many years. It’s manual (not programmable) oblong, removable crock, locking lid. I have used it a lot and like it. I have not used any other brands.

Judy I am using an Instant Pot multi cooker–not the pressure cooker, more rectangular shaped in fact I have 2 of them and really like them, but I also see they are no longer making them. With that said, I went to Recipes that cRock she has loads of reviews and how to choose a good slow cooker. Here is the link. https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/how-to-choose-the-best-crock-pot-for-you/

My preferred choice is Kitchen Aid, I have it for years and its awesome!! It was a little more costly than others, but I think you get what you pay for. There are certainly a lot in the market place to consider, happy hunting!

I have a Hamilton Beach 6qt. It has an oblong shape and the inner portion is dishwasher safe, although I prefer to hand wash.

Honestly, I’d buy 1 or 2 from the thrift store rather than new. I see several any time I go!

Thanks! We have a Goodwill here but I have never shopped for a crock pot there.
Walmart had the CrockPot brand just like I have now (so I’ll have a second crock in case one breaks) for $32 and there was no charge for delivery so I just went with that. I didn’t need it to be programmable and definitely didn’t want non-stick so a basic slow cooker for that price works for me.

I have the Hamilton Beach oblong, removeable pot liner, minimally programmable. It does what I need it to do including making broth with bones. It auto shuts off after 12 or so (not sure but it’s a long time), so if I want it to run overnight I shut it off then turn it right back on.

I have the original Crock pot and have had it for 35 years. It still works great. My mom has one that is older than that. I used it a few weeks ago. It had not been used in at least 30 years. It worked great! It’s the original one too.
