Last night I finished the first tree motif on And A Forest Grew.

One tree does not make a forest . . I suppose. At least it doesn’t make this particular forest. I really enjoyed stitching it.
There are days when I want to make all red stitches on a big house – just mindlessly make cross stitches. There are days when I want to change colors and not stick with the same colors. Not that I really ever stick with one project start to finish but And A Forest Grew is probably one I’ll definitely stitch on a few days here and a few days there. It’s fun to see each little element done but I have to pay really close attention to counting and there are lots of color changes.
At first, I was thinking that I could stitch one tree per day. I could . . if there wasn’t so much going on – cooking, Oscar, bread baking, the garden. Then I thought I could stitch one section per week. Then I was thinking one section per month. The chart is broken down into 14 sections. Vince loves trees – especially pictures and drawings of trees but he loves real trees too. His birthday is this month so now I’m thinking if I could get this finished for his next birthday, that would be nice. Or, maybe the birthday in 2025. 🙂
The funny thing is that he can sit right next to me and never notice what I’m stitching so I could easily work on it in plain sight and he’d never know I’m doing it if I can keep my mouth shut and not say “Look at what I’m working on for you!” On the other hand, stitching something for his birthday is about like him buying a power tool for me for my birthday. Wait .. that kinda did happen. Who remembers 13 years ago when he bought me a lime green weed whacker for our anniversary?

It is a fun stitch! Yes, you do have to watch the chart and count carefully. I’ve had to rip back a little on the next tree to the right, but its really a pretty one!
I like the idea of leaving this piece out to stitch on every day, but that won’t help my goal of finishing 23 in ’23.

I’m thinking I need to stitch a few smalls which I want to do anyway. I ended up having to rup a bit on the tree next to the right too. I was zipping along making vertical rows of three and then . . there weren’t three any more. 🙂

I’m loving the chart! The small motifs and many color changes is what drove me to considering the Aida. I really need to work on the pin stitch on linen so I can be confident in using it. I haven’t decided how much I will work on this but I haven’t picked up anything else since I started! lol I’ve completed the top third of the first page. There is real satisfaction with getting a motif or two done! I may keep at it until we start Winter Rose Manor.

Good idea. Maybe I’ll do that too . . stick with this one for two more weeks.

I got a router for Christmas one year. It’s what I wanted though. I love tools. I think it’s in my blood. My father and grandfathers all were talented woodworkers. I’m not using them much anymore but I still love them. My tools now are rotary cutters and my longarm. ?

I always thought it would be fun to have a router. They can be used to do such neat stuff.

I remember the green weed whacked story. That goes to show how long I’ve been reading your blog ?

It seems like yesterday. How could that have been 13 years ago??
