Don’t ask me why I can’t tell a story in half a page but I cannot so . . bear with me please.
A couple of weeks ago a friend told me about the Bluebirds of Happiness by JBW Designs. Judy Whitman had designed it for Keepsake’s retreat and they were selling the chart. It’s an exclusive through their shop for some amount of time but I think they’ve been overwhelmed with orders so, if you want the chart, I’d suggest watching the Keepsake website to see when they’re taking orders again.
I wanted to use Victoria Clayton’s Silks and I wanted to do my own conversion. She has a DMC to her floss conversion on the website but I wanted to match it all up by myself. I was able to match everything close enough . . at least to my liking except one color. The closest I had was a bit deeper lavender than the one I needed. I didn’t want to order one bobbin of floss so I figured I’d stitch everything else and by the time I needed that color, I would have needed something else from Vikki Clayton. Then, I chose fabric . . 40 count Paper Bark by Fox & Rabbit and I was done . . filled out the project page for my stitching journal and sat down.
At that point I decided to look at Vikki Clayton’s conversion and see what color she recommended as the match to the color I needed. It was 2131. I searched on her website for that color to see what kits it might have been in. Surely I would have one of those. There was only one kit that used that color and I didn’t have it. I kept thinking about it and then I remembered . . I ordered a couple of light lavender-ish colors when I was stitching The Mighty Acorn. I got up and retrieved the leftover floss from that packet and yes! I had 2131.
I’m so happy with the colors. I think I’m going to love this project and will be very happy to have these bluebirds on our walls.

Your silk colors look so pretty. Still anxiously awaiting my order but had also ordered a couple different choices of the fabric they had offered to see which shade I liked best and I think they are waiting on a restock. Looking forward to starting that one as soon as it arrives. Such a sweet design.

Don’t give up! It is such a pretty chart! It isn’t going to be easy with my old eyes (didn’t want to mention your old eyes–I’m thoughtful like that!)…it will be worth it!
