Please . . do NOT mention that merely days ago, I said I was not going to buy new charts.
This morning I started watching Vonna Pfeiffer’s flosstube. Right off the bat, she was talking about how she watches flosstubes or Instagram and ends up buying all the things she sees and then she doesn’t stitch her older charts that she loved and she was going back to stitching some of her older charts. She mentioned how you feel like you’re always chasing after the newest stuff and you just keep chasing and chasing. Not her exact words but my interpretation of her words. I thought . . that’s what I’m going to do! It’s kinda – either stop looking at Instagram or become more disciplined in what I buy. OK . . I’ll stop watching Instagram. 🙂
I loved what she was saying. That’s what I’m going to do . . stitch what I have and stop buying charts. At some point, I can’t stitch EVERYTHING! So that was all just confirmation that I’m not buying more charts, right? No!
The next part of her video showed Mill Hill kits that she had stitched for Christmas ornaments and she talked about how she finishes them. I ordered a couple of those kits. I’ve wanted to stitch the ornaments but they are intimidating but her video made them not look so intimidating.
Next, or maybe not next but at some point, she showed Wildlife Animals I and II by Little Stitcher. I need those because I actually have several wildlife ornament size charts and I want to have a little “wildlife tree” which may or may not stay out all year. I want the “tree” to be very twiggy and not so much like a Christmas tree. I may put it out in the fall and keep it up through January. I’m not sure. First, I have to stitch a few of the ornaments. I had to order those two wildlife sets.
Then, she showed little pillows for dough bowls (though I’m not sure she will make hers into pillows) by Thread Milk Designs. I thought . . I’ll make all of those! But, they’re $5 each. That’s a lot of money for tiny little pillows . . worth it I’m sure but just more than I want to spend so I decided to get the ones for the states where Vince and I have lived – Missouri, Texas, Kentucky and Louisiana. Vince didn’t live in Louisiana but I spent over half my life there. He lived in Florida, Georgia, New York, Tennessee, Ohio and probably other states I’m not remembering. Maybe I’ll teach him to cross stitch and he can stitch his states. Maybe I’ll stitch Georgia and Florida because we did spend a good bit of time in those two states before we were married because he lived in Georgia and for quick trips, we were both less than 5 hours from the Destin area of Florida so that was a good meeting place for us. One of the things I’ve wanted to do was set up a little “tray” or larger dough bowl and put it on a pretty embroidered towel or something on our dresser. I wish it could be a tray or dough bowl that Vince would make but . . we’ll see. I wanted to keep things in the bowl with memories from our life together. So, when I saw those state pillows, I thought that was a good idea – something to pull everything together . . similar things in a bowl of lots of non-related type things.
Then, she showed a “letter” she had stitched for her daughter. It’s from the Letters from Nora series so, of course, I had to order the “A” for Addie. I will stitch it, frame it and probably keep it til she’s older. Translation: I will stitch it, frame it and forget where I put it. When I’m gone, Chad will go through everything and hopefully he’ll find it, and give it to Addie. 🙂
Obviously, I missed the entire point of Vonna’s video – stitch the older charts you bought because you loved them and stop buying all the new stuff but . . cut me some slack here . . I think there’s a good reason for everything I ordered – it wasn’t so much willy nilly ordering so, it was ok, right?

However you want to justify it…LOL I made it through the first month of “only buy necessities”. I have to remind myself frequently that more yarn or spinning fibers are not necessities. I can go shopping in the bedroom if I am tired of all my current projects. I am really tempted by knitting needles. I need my size 2’s for a pair of socks, and I can’t find them anywhere. They have to be in a project bag, because 2 from the set are in their slot. I just don’t know where the other 4 are. Ugh! It would be so easy to order an extra set…

You’re right. I ended up ordering another Kindle when I had searched for mine for months and a year or so later, found it in a project bag.

I am working on the “This is the Day” sampler and I ran out of floss! So, I went to the website to order some more and realized that it would be better to buy something to ship with the floss. But, the floss is out of stock. I know that I could continue searching other sites, but I am trying to stick with one online shop.
Well, I found a series of small pillows (Serial Bowl Collection by Plum Street Samplers) and one pattern went into the cart, then some fabric, and then the floss for that project. Then, I decided to get the patterns for all four pillows as well as the fabric for all four – just in case the patterns are discontinued or whatever. I’m debating about getting the floss for these pillows since the called for floss is Classic Colorworks, though the DMC options are listed. And I might wait to see if I run out of another color of floss for the “day” sampler and need to order more.
The bottom line is that it is very dangerous to stroll through the websites. Too many things end up in the shopping cart.

So very dangerous! 🙂
I had some floss in my cart at Colorado Cross Stitcher and was waiting to see if there was anything else I needed and now the floss I needed is out of stock! Cross stitching is a tough job! 🙂

I was doing really well until Wishing Thorn sent me an email about a big sale…I couldn’t help myself and bought 4 patterns, but they are at least PDF,’s no shipping. Now I’m going to trash all emails from designers…LOL

I did the same thing. Vonna made that little Santa look so easy! And the wildlife charts – ordered those too. Might as well go back to instagram!
