We buy these little rubber squeaky “bone” toys for Oscar and he loves them . . he REALLY loves them! He loves for us to throw them and he brings them back to us as long as we’ll throw them. At first, he brings them to us and drops them. Then after a while, we have to fight him for them. He wants us to throw them but he also wants us to fuss with him to get them. The problem is that he will sit and chew through them and he’ll chew the corner off so we take them away from him when we’re done playing fetch with them. We can go through three or four fetch sessions with one before he chews the corner off and we throw it away. Vince finds them at Walmart and will buy 5 or 6 of them. He hasn’t had one in a while and last night, he spotted a bag of them up on top of a shelf and he let us know what he wanted . . til I got up and got one for him.
Vince was trying to watch a game this afternoon and Oscar wanted to play. It was easier for Vince to get the bone from Oscar if he was sitting on the floor. Oscar would bring the bone, put it down on the floor and wait . . somewhat patiently for Vince to throw it. If Vince waited too long, Oscar would grab it, and climb up Vince’s belly and deposit the bone right on his chest . . like he was saying “Don’t you see what I want you to do!”
Both of us were thinking .. there’s going to come a day when we’re going to look back and remember how much he loved to play. Puppies are a lot of trouble. This one may have been more trouble than the average puppy but he sure is fun to have around. If he had gone to a home with kids to play with, he might have enjoyed it more but he surely couldn’t have gone anywhere that he would be loved more than we love him.

Love to hear about Oscar. Our 2yo dachshund loves to play and run. Thankfully we have a 4yo lab that plays with her. We’ve said a home with kids would be great for these two but, since we’re retired, they have the benefit of our 24/7 attention. Both are lovers and follow us everywhere.

That’s true. Many homes with kids have both parents working, kiddos in school and pets are left alone. Can’t have everything. I think we would have lost what little sanity we have left but, looking back, we probably should have gotten one of Oscar’s siblings when we got him.

Our 6 year old terrier is just out of puppy stage. I still think it would have been easier to have 2 as they’d wear each other out. BeneBone is a great chew toy bone. It can’t be chewed off in big pieces (they like rice size or smaller) and we have found them to be very helpful for our aggressive chewer.

We have several of those and you’re right – they’ve lasted the longest of any and he does seem to enjoy them.
