Today was at least the 6th time I’ve had lithotripsy. After the last two times, I didn’t have a kidney stone for 8 or 9 years so I’m hoping the same thing happens this time.
We had to be at the hospital at 5:30, which means we had to leave the house about 4:50, which means I had to get up at 4 a.m. – take Oscar out, play with him a minute, shower, get dressed and out the door.
I did not want a stent. I understand why they use them but oh . . I hate them and the removal! When the nurse called to go over everything a few days ago, I said “Can I please not have the stent?” Two times before today I didn’t have to have a stent. She said “He won’t use it unless he hast to.” When he came in to talk to us before the procedure and he said “I hear you don’t want a stent!” and went on to say that he wouldn’t use it if they were able to break the stones up into very tiny, easily passable pieces.
When I woke up in recovery, I guess I looked at the nurse like “Where am I?” She explained I was in recovery, and would need to be there about another hour so I could go back to sleep if I wanted to. Then she said “You do NOT have a stent!” and she patted me on the arm.
I’m happy not to have to deal with that!
We came home, I went downstairs, played with Oscar maybe 5 minutes, went back upstairs – it was about 11:00. I went to bed and slept til after 5. Now I’m working on getting another cross stitch project kitted. Not sure I’ll try to stitch tonight – but hopefully I can get some good stitching in tomorrow.

My mom’s had that more times than I can count. I don’t know if they ever put in a stent, simply because it was never mentioned. She’s living with my sister in another state, so I’m not close enough to visit very often.
My hubby had his eyelids done this morning, so we were up at 5:30 (better than you!!) in order to be at the surgery center by 6:30. We were home by 10, and he says he’s going to get a picture to send to a friend, telling him that he drove past a quilt shop without stopping so I belted him!!! 🙂 🙂 LOL!!!

That’s funny. At least he has his sense of humor after having gone through that procedure. I hope he has a quick and easy recovery.

YEA for no stent! Being an OR RN that started back in ’80, I won’t tell you how we got stones in the old days. Lithotripsy is a most remarkable outcome of scientific research and engineering. Here’s to wishing you those 8-9 years of relief!

My sister had to have surgery through her back in the 80’s. I’ve also had them removed with the basket and yes, I’ll take lithotripsy any day over those two methods.

So very glad
that things went well. Take it easy for a few days, any hospital visit is tiring on the body.
