There was a time, for probably 15 or 20 years where I did every crumb of my shopping – gifts, decorations, food – by about November 1. The Thanksgiving and Christmas menus were planned way in advance and I had everything I needed and there might be a time a week or so before Thanksgiving when I ran to the store and filled in some gaps in the supplies but for the most part, I didn’t do any shopping again until about January 10. I gave all the folks returning Christmas gifts plenty of time to get their business done and then, I resumed my normal schedule of shopping.
Yesterday Oscar had an 11:20 vet appointment so we took him to the vet. We were supposed to have about an inch of snow but that never happened but . . it was cold! After we were done at the vet, we ran by Aldi. I stayed in the car with Oscar while Vince went in to get whatever it was we needed. We went home, took Oscar for a walk and were back inside and Vince said “Do you need to go to town?”
I told him that I had found beef shanks for Chad at Food 4 Less in Joplin but I wanted to call the meat store that was closed on Mondays so I didn’t really have to go. Vince suggested we get the beef shanks while they had them at Food 4 Less and then if the meat store had beef shanks, we could go back later in the week.
Then Vince said he needed a few things from Walmart. I said “What? Walmart is going to be a zoo!” Vince thought no one would be shopping on a Monday. Doubtful.
We went to the grocery store, went to Home Depot (I stayed in the car), went to Walmart (I stayed in the car). Vince couldn’t believe how crowded it was in Walmart. He said he just wasn’t thinking about it being so close to Christmas but he assured me he is not leaving the house again til after Christmas.
It was good to go to the store for the beef shanks. They had 24 oz. packs of bacon for $4.25. Vince picked through to get some of the more meaty packs and bought a few of those. They had the little cutie type oranges – 3 pounds for $1.25 so we got a couple of those and they’re really good. They had a bag of really pretty sweet onions – 5 pounds for $3.00. I was happy with those finds.
I hope Vince is right . . we’re not leaving the house again for at least a week.

Yup! Walmart was a zoo, here too! I try to avoid Walmart any day, but there are a few items that I can only get in Walmart in my town. So I braved the crowds yesterday, and was sure regretting that decision before I was done. I knew from the parking lot that it would be packed with shoppers.

I go wherever the same things cost less and even with Aldi here, Walmart is often less. I have no real dedication to any grocery store . . at this point savings is what matters most to me. If it were up to me, I’d do it all online and do curbside pickup but Vince wants to go walking through the stores.

I went to Walmart today and yes it was a zoo here also. But they had just about all the checking lines open and the self check out. There were more people in line to do the self checkout than the regular lines! Some people!!! Then I went to Brookshire’s and it was even more of a zoo! I was so glad to get home! I do not like crowds!!
