We now have seven fishes for Christmas Eve:
- Mussels
- Scallops
- Shrimp
- Tilapia
- Cod
- Lobster
- Either tuna salad from a can, seared tuna steak or smoked salmon.
Here’s what I plan to do:
Mussels: Vince likes these. I do not. They are in a butter garlic sauce, frozen, from Aldi. There aren’t many in the box so Vince will eat those. I’ll have one so I can say I had 7 fishes!
Scallops: I’ll air fry these. There aren’t too many in the package. Also frozen from Aldi.
Tilapia: There are two small pieces in a the package. I’ll remove one and defrost it and keep the other frozen for later. I’ll make Garlic Butter Baked Tilapia.
Shrimp: I’ll make shrimp fettuccine. I’ll defrost a pound of shrimp, make a small pot of shrimp fettuccine and the make a larger pot to go with our Christmas dinner when Chad, Nicole and Addie will be here.
Cod: I’ll make Lemon Butter Cod. The fish pieces are frozen so I’ll probably take 2 small or 1 larger piece out and only cook a small bit of it.
Lobster: We bought two frozen tails from Aldi. Not the best but the best we can get here without spending an arm and a leg.
Tuna Salad: I’m leaning towards tuna salad from a can because I can serve that over lettuce with sliced cucumbers, black olives, green olive, cherry tomatoes and celery sticks. Left over tuna salad might be great for dinner with a few crackers on Christmas night after having had a big meal for lunch.
Coming up with “7 fishes” seemed almost impossible when I first thought about doing it but it ended up being quite easy!

We had a family in our former church that always did the Feast of the Seven Fishes every Christmas Eve. Her husband is Italian. It’s a big deal in this area around Pittsburgh, PA because of the diverse ethnic culture in the area. Lots of different ethnicities and lots of different cultural activities! 🙂

I just heard about it a month or so ago. Vince didn’t know about it either. There’s an Italian community near Pittsburg, KS. I wish I had a “mentor” (or better yet, a family that would invite us over for a Feast of the Seven Fishes!) 🙂
I would love to experience more of the ethnic menus and traditions.
