There were probably things my parents did that made me think they were so “out of touch” but I can’t remember anything. Chad and Nicole have their phones with them at all times. If I think Chad is off and I call him and he’s still working, he’ll either answer, make sure I’m ok and tell me he’ll call me when he gets off, or he’ll text me and say “I’m working. I’ll call you later.”
I so rarely have my phone with me and even when it is with me, half the time, it’s not even on or the volume is turned off. I almost always hit Do Not Disturb at night because (1) my phone would wake Vince but it wouldn’t wake me (2) neither of us drive at dark so if there’s a problem, I’m not able to go anywhere but I’d be awake the rest of the night worrying.
Addie was born during the night (horrible grandma . . I don’t know what time) but Chad tried to call me several times and I didn’t get the news til the next morning. A friend’s daughter was in a horrible accident late one night and she tried to call me several times. I could have talked with her to help her through the night but . . I didn’t.
We were fairly busy yesterday and I don’t even know when was the last time I had seen my phone but when I checked Facebook, I had this in Messenger from Chad.
I had to find my phone, call him and he was driving and couldn’t talk so he called me back when he got stopped. He said “I’ve called you at least four times!” I said “You know I never have my phone with me!” He was not impressed.
He wanted me to get some beef shanks from the meat store here so he can pick them up when he’s here Christmas Day. OK . . I can do that!
I probably should try to do a better job of keeping my phone with me but I know I won’t.

Oh I am just like you in that my phone used to be where I had it last. If it was morning, I didn’t worry about turning the phone on. My oldest daughter has provided my phone for me for many years. She finally became adamant about my turning it on and putting the sound up where I could hear it! Lolo I try but some days I fail! Do,you think she will cut me off? No I don’t because now I pay her some towards the monthly bill. Lolo

Both of my sons and their wives have their phones with then pretty much 24/7. The youngest son is good about answering and his wife will return a text quickly. Now my oldest is a different story, it might be hours later even though he has his phone on him. Me…my phone is always on but 9 out of 10 times, it’s on the kitchen counter and I am in another room of the house. Lately my husband has his cut off when it doesn’t need to be. He’s missed appointment changes because of being cut off. Good thing about cell phones, they block spam calls.

I am just like you! Half the time when we go out, I forget my phone!! I really don’t like talking on it and I detest when people have theirs on and are talking so loud you know the entire conversation. I just have a TracFone and I don’t even have any apps on it! I don’t want my phone tied up with FB or email. I just want a phone! LOL Talk about old! I have a laptop for all the other things. Besides when you get hacked, you have to redo everything and change your passwords.

I’m with you. It doesn’t need to be at the table when we’re eating. With the age of our vehicles, I never leave home without the phone. Not sure who I’d call but I have my phone. 🙂

It must be a woman thing I don’t carry my phone either I am always looking for it when it rings but the children don’t move without their phones they all know not to rely on me having it on and the house phone is there still for an emergency if wait for appointments I do keep it handy though so no you are not the only one

Teens today wouldn’t believe most of us grew up with one phone on the wall in the house and our side of any conversation was most often heard by everyone in the house. While I didn’t think it was a good thing back then, now I think it was what saved a lot of us from mischief.

And that wasn’t urgent!! LOL. I have mine most of the time, and most of the time, the sound is on, but if I want a nap, I turn it off. If I don’t want to talk to anyone, I turn it off. At night, the sound is off. I figure that I got through 50ish years without having a phone attached to my hand. If someone can’t wait an hour, call someone else. I’m obviously busy! Or sleeping. Sometimes, I purposely leave it in another room or at home, just so I can be by myself!
I feel sorry for children growing up without knowing the freedom of not being attached to a phone! When I was little, my mother expected me to come home when the street lights turned on. I always did except once, and I got a little sore bottom for that one time. Once was enough! I didn’t need her to call me. LOL

You’re so right about the freedom of not having a phone and watching it 24/7. On my phone (maybe all phones), if I position it face down, it automatically goes to “Do Not Disturb”. During meals, I turn it face down, usually in the living room. I forget about it and then it’s time to go to bed and, of course, IF anyone has called, it didn’t ring. I do the same thing at night – face down on the night stand, and then sometimes it’s noon before I want to make a call and . . where’s my phone? Still on the night stand not ringing. And so far, the world has not stopped turning because I didn’t have my phone attached to my hip.
