Yesterday I went through the closet in Addie’s room. She doesn’t come here enough to have her own room but . . it’s her room when she comes so it will probably always be Addie’s room.
I’ve mentioned before that where I usually order frames, there’s free shipping if I spend $250. Otherwise, the frames can be $25 or $30 and the shipping will be $15 so it makes sense to order at least $250 when I order. As soon as I finish a project, or get close enough to finishing that I can safely measure the piece and know what size frame I’ll need, I’ll add it to the list and then when I have enough frames to come up to $250 worth, I place an order. Often, when the order arrives, I’m in the middle of trying to finish something or don’t want to get all the framing tools out so I stick the frames in Addie’s closet. Also, apparently there’s some kind of clearing house for frames. I can order frames from the one place and if I order 6 frames, I will get them from 6 different places. The funny thing is there’s a shop in Brownwood, Texas that often sends frames.
So . . yesterday I looked in Addie’s closet and there were 12 frames in there so it was time to get some framing done. There were two projects that were close to being finished as far as framing so I grabbed those first and finished them.
This is one of the first bigger projects I stitched. You can see it was finished in 2021. The first few pieces that I ordered frames to finish, I didn’t order glass so this one doesn’t have glass. For the most part, I’m now ordering glass with the frames. I’m not sure if I’ll order glass for this one so I’ve not put the glazier points in to hold it all together. I’ll decide before I order frames again and if I want glass, I’ll order it with the next frame order.
This one was also finished in 2021. Charles Miller was my dad’s brother. Same with the glass . . if I decide I want glass on this one, I’ll order it with the next frame order.
The one for my uncle, I laced. The Marriage piece, I pinned. I’m not sure which method I prefer. I feel like I have more control with pinning and I can make adjustments easier. I don’t know. I’ll continue to use both methods til I decide which one I like best. By the time I get all the frames that are here filled and on the wall, I may have a definite opinion on which way I like best.
For pinning, I use these stainless steel pins. For lacing, I use size 8 perle cotton, usually the ecru color.

I pin, then lace and take the pins out. Even stainless steel pins will eventually corrode especially in a humid climate

Probably a much better idea – get it completely straight with pins, then lace. You convinced me. It’s one of those things I know I should do but was trying to avoid doing. 🙂
