This doesn’t count as a trip to town because I was there for a dental appointment. I think I’ve mentioned before that Vince and I have been getting our x-rays, cleaning, etc. done at the Missouri Southern University’s dental hygiene school. It’s hygienists that are about to graduate and everything is done under the supervision of hygienist instructors and a dentist. Somehow Vince has gone twice and both times he went from 8 to 3 with a 1.5 hour lunch break and got everything done in one day. It took me THREE trips – two mornings and a full day. I’m not sure what was different but before I go next year, I’m going to make sure I get a one day and done appointment. For the x-rays, cleaning, polishing – everything, we pay $30. I don’t know how much I paid the first time I went to a dentist here and got x-rays and the full new patient visit but when I went back just for a cleaning with no x-rays; nothing special, it was over $200 so spending an entire day and saving $170 . . well, it’s good for me except I spent more than that at Hobby Lobby and I wouldn’t have been there unsupervised except for that dental appointment. 🙂
I’ve always been against giving money for Christmas gifts. I felt like it showed a lack of caring . . not caring enough to think about the perfect gift, not caring enough to go find it, not caring enough to wrap it all up. I think it was because I never liked getting money for Christmas because it only happened after I got to be an adult and, for the most part, it was given because the giver didn’t want to spend the time figuring out a perfect gift. But, Addie loves to shop and for her, money is the best gift. When they were here for Thanksgiving, she told me that she has a new rule . . no clothes for Christmas. Hmmm . . I always felt pretty lucky to be getting any kind of gift but times have changed. I told her I was probably going to give her money and she could buy what she wants and that thrilled her.
But, that means nothing under the Christmas tree! I was thinking I’d pick up some little gifts – she loves drawing so a marker set, drawing pads – things I know she will use, not the kind of thing she’ll play with once and throw away.
When I walked into Hobby Lobby, I saw this:
She loves Baby Yoda (and I guess that’s who is on the waffles). Then I saw a cotton candy maker. Who wouldn’t love that? So I got those two things. I already found some kind of winter pajamas for her that I knew she would like. So . . that’s about all she’s going to get, along with a bit of cash.
I’ve been thinking I’d like to try my hand at making the shorter decorated hat pins for sticking in little cross stitched pin pillows. I ordered a few things from Etsy but when they say 12 mm beads or 20 mm beads, I wasn’t envisioning how those would look on the pins so I thought I’d pick up some beads at Hobby Lobby, play around with it and see if I enjoy it before ordering from Etsy.
I also got a few packets of beads for adding to some of the cross stitch pillows.
They had all kinds of household items on sale so I picked up a couple of trays. One is long and narrow and I think I’d like it on the dining room table to hold salt, pepper, Tabasco . . the things we keep on the table. I might end up using it for some kind of decoration but it’s long and narrow so I doubt it.
It was a fun shopping excursion without the watchful eye of the keeper of the finances! 🙂

I used to have a hard time giving money too because I would spend time looking for just the right present for someone…and I think I was pretty good at it. But, now a days it seems money is more appreciated so that’s what I do. It is easier but not as fun! Awhile back I bought supplies to make those pins too and they’ve been just sitting around…lol I just need to sit and do it! The hardest thing for me to find was plain pins! I wanted them long enough so I could add multiple findings on them but in the end I ordered corsage pins on Amazon. They were the longest I could find. I’m looking forward to seeing your pins!

I ordered some off Etsy and bought some “doll pins” at Hobby Lobby today. I’m not sure any of the ones I bought will work but they’ll be good for something . . I hope.

Thanks for the info! I plan on making a Hobby Lobby run tomorrow and will look for doll pins. Also planning on picking up the DMC floss I need for And A Forest Grew. Glad I have a lot of the needed colors but still need a lot more! 🙂 Still need to decide on what fabric I will use. 🙂

I watched a video and the lady used those. I haven’t tried it yet but they’re pretty inexpensive.
I am thinking of starting that and trying to get either one large or two motifs done each week in 2023. It will take forever but slow and steady wins the race, right?

If I had announced I had a rule of no clothes for Christmas, that would have sealed my fate. I would likely have received nothing at all, or only underwear and socks! LOL

Did you find any nice frames for your beautiful rose cross stitch piece?

No. There was only one person working and I didn’t have long before I had to be back at the dentist. I’ll order something online.

My Grands get Gift Cards for their Birthdays, so it’s Homemeade somethings for Christmas. Something that takes me all year to figure out and hurry to finish in time to mail or deliver. This year it’s Mug Rugs. my new embroidery Machine has me addicted to them, lol. I thught about doing pillows but they are harder to mail to theh Big Family. I’ll send them MONEY for new Pillows.
