A reader asked in a comment if Pattern Keeper is an Android app because she had been looking for it in the IOS app . . Apple Store . . can’t remember what it’s called. I do have an iPad that has Knit Companion, which is kinda similar but for knitting and that app is only for IOS so I keep an iPad for that.
I’ve mentioned before that Pattern Keeper is an Android only app at this time but I forget that not everyone has been here for years and years so I’m sorry for never seeming to give enough information. I’ll try harder but . . I can only do what I remember to do.
If you go to the Pattern Keeper website, they do have a place where you can sign up to receive info about the development of the IOS version. They’ve been talking about it for a while so I have no idea if it’s about to be released or still years down the road. All I know is that I love it.
Some of the things I love about it . . I wish I could show pictures but to be effective, they would have to include portions of charts, which I can’t do.
- Since the chart is on the touch screen, I can make it as large or as small as I want. If I’m in an area that has lots of different colored stitches, I’ll enlarge it pretty big. If I’m wanting to see where I’m stitching in relation to something else, I can squeeze it up to see a lot more of the chart.
- I tap on a symbol and every stitch that uses that color floss shows up. I can tap on each square or each line of squares or each block of squares that are that color and it makes them darker so I know they’ve been stitched.
- When using the app, my goal is to stitch 500 stitches per day. As I tap on a stitch to show it completed, the app keeps up with it. If stitching from a paper chart, I do not count my stitches but it fun keeping up with how many I’m stitching per day.
If you click on the link in the first line, there’s an FAQ page, and I think there’s a little video demo of how the app works.

Thank you?

-Last year Santa brought me a Samsung tablet, which I use for Pattern Keeper and a few other Apps. There is also a function with which you can take a photo of a paper chart and import it into the reader. You don’t get the color selection option, but you can enlarge and mark stitches that you have stitched. My reader has a “pen” which helps a lot with the marking. The App has been upgraded recently, so this function is a little easier than it used to be.

I’ve tried copying charts and saving as a pdf, importing but have not had much luck. Vince said he thinks a newer printer might do a better job. Yes, I do like the updated app.
Are you saying it’s now easier to mark the stitched squares or to import a pdf of a copied chart? I haven’t tried importing with the updated app.

-Importing a photo of a chart, after I take it with the tablet. It seems like it is easier to get all the lines straight. There are more points to click on to “un-warp” the lines. Previously I had issues with the program telling me it was unable to make the chart. I am working on Turkey Bay, a two page chart, I taped it together to take the photo.

I bought an android tablet (I’m a mac user) earlier this year just for Pattern Keeper and just yesterday downloaded the app. I imported Only One Rose after much guesswork (ignorant of Android things) and messed up the importation so I deleted the pdf and will try again later. I guess I need to go read how to operate things and import files. I think my mistake was importing everything instead of just one page of the cross stitch. If you don’t mind, question for you, did you import just the page that has the complete pattern on it or did you bring in the multiple pages of the various quadrants? Thanks!! 😀

-I have the same issue, Mac user, it’s hard for me to relearn how to use the android platform. Mostly I blunder around until I click something that works. In the past I have been able to bring in multi pages of the same pattern PDF. I just looked on YouTube, and there are a bunch of tutorials, check there. I need a refresher too 😉

Thanks! I knew I would eventually have to check YouTube but I was being lazy when I fired everything up and “went for it!” lol….I need to set aside a block of time to look at the videos and then play with everything and use it right away. I find that it’s harder these days to let time go by when learning something new. 😀
