The first part of this story isn’t so funny. Oscar had not chewed up his most recent bed and he’s been using it for over a month. Yesterday I was upstairs cooking . . a bit too long for his liking I guess and he shredded it. I came downstairs to the biggest mess. The stuffing was something that looked like a cross between black fiberfil and black hair. It was gross and it was everywhere. Just 20 days til his first birthday! I’m expecting a miracle that probably isn’t going to happen. Why is he such a chewer? All my dogs have liked various chew toys/bones but Oscar goes through them like crazy. Toys — forget it. Even the ones for heavy chewers last seconds, not minutes. Those XL yak chew sticks .. he can go through one of those in a day. Not only are they rather costly but I’m afraid he’s wearing his teeth down so we’re limiting those.
I gave him a new bed and had a serious talk about destroying his things. This is the look I got. It’s either “I promise to never do it again!” or . . it’s “The cat did it! Stop fussing at me!”
Then, we have a big white plastic lid that goes on a Rubbermaid storage container. When Oscar is sitting with me, we use that lid to block my table to keep him from grabbing everything on it. He’s halfway afraid of the lid.
Last night he sat in my chair with me for probably an hour. Every now and then, Vince would move his chair and it would make that lid move a bit and Oscar was keeping a watchful eye on that scary lid. Look how cute that blaze is on his head. He’s so cute . . I can’t believe how funny and cute . . and destructive he is.
Every time that lid moved, he went on high alert. You can tell he’s sleepy but he couldn’t sleep soundly with the threat so close. 🙂
Poor dog.

Have you thought of antlers for him to chew?

Corgis are notorious for destroying toys! We have a bet as to how long they will last! Even the ones that say they are non-destructible are gone within minutes! The only thing we have found that they can’t destroy is the medium Nyla bone. But once they have chewed on them and the ends look ragged, you are supposed to replace them. For some reason, some dogs just chew up everything! But, he will probably grow out of it.

I remember that Vicky (LA) told me that dachshunds are known to destroy toys, and it was quite an effort to find things to last more than a day! I think she once showed me the remains of an “indestructible” toy.

I was lucky I guess with my first two because they weren’t so destructive but Oscar has made up for it.
