Yesterday morning, for some reason, Rita woke up way before 5 a.m. I heard her barking so I got up and went downstairs to try to tend to her before she woke Vince. By the time I got downstairs, Oscar was barking because Rita was barking and I don’t think either of them knew why they were barking. I’d only been asleep about four hours so I wasn’t happy with them. It was still dark but I took Rita out because she won’t wait long before she goes to the bathroom. Oscar won’t go so I took Rita out, fed her. Took Oscar out and fed him. Then I got in the downstairs bed and tried to go back to sleep. Not happening so I got up.
I think Rita wakes up thinking about eating, has no idea what time it is and demands to be fed. There was nothing wrong with either one of them as far as I could tell.
Anyway, Vince had a doctor’s appointment down south of here today. He was going to leave the house about 9 and for several days, he’s been saying “You’re going with me, right?” Nope . . not going. As it turned out, we had several packages coming from USPS, as well as a couple coming from UPS. I convinced Vince that I should stay home and get the packages mainly because he had a long list of places he was going to stop and I just didn’t want to do it.
I knew he had several stops he wanted to make but worse, he wanted to eat at a Chinese buffet. I’ve told him I am not eating at a buffet . . probably never again. Too many germs. Too many people who do not wash their hands. We so seldom go out to eat that if we can’t go somewhere that doesn’t have a buffet, I’m just not going.
He ended up going to Walmart in Neosho, then after the doctor, he came back to Joplin, went to Walmart in Joplin, then to Aldi, then to Walmart in Webb City. Good grief . . I would have been chomping at the bit to get home.
As soon as Vince left, I stuck the baby back ribs in the smoker. I had googled recipes and did them a bit differently. I had seasoned them on Saturday because I had planned to cook them on Sunday but then Chad and his family came by to eat and I fixed burgers so the ribs were ready to put on the smoker. I smoked them at 250 for two hours, then brushed them with melted butter and honey, wrapped them in foil and smoked them for another hour – really they were just on the smoker getting baked because the smoke wasn’t getting to them while wrapped in foil. Then I opened the foil, brushed them again with melted butter and honey, closed the foil back up and left them for another hour. By then, Vince was home so I took the ribs out of the foil, stuck them back in the smoker to kinda dry out and let the butter/honey mix caramelize.
I had made potato salad, opened a jar of homemade baked beans . . it was a great meal and it was great to have almost a whole day home alone. Vince being home isn’t a problem (good thing because he does live here too!) but running all over town – I just can’t do it and with the Christmas frenzy about to happen, home is where I want to be. I’m sure Vince will be happy to go to the store for whatever groceries we may need but, if not, I’ll do curbside pickup.
Today we’re having leftover potato soup, salad with air fried chicken strips and a little cheese tray. Not much cooking so hopefully I can have a big day of stitching!

I did Aldi curbside pickup for the first time last week. It was great! No fighting the crowd, no waiting in line, they even bagged my stuff and loaded it in the car. I did pay $1.99 for the convenience but it was well worth it to me! I may never go inside Aldi again!

I’ll do curbside pickup most places but I love going inside Aldi. They have so much fun stuff in there to find. Here, if we go early after they first open, there are usually less people in there. With four in our immediate area, they don’t seem to get terribly crowded but with one checker usually, that can take a while.

I had a mammogram and bone density scheduled yesterday, so afterwards I did Walmart (not too crazy), picked up my husband’s prescription at Kroger (very calm and uncrowded), and went in HEB to pick up a few items for my daughter. Don’t know if they were having a great sale or what, but it was a crazy, crowded madhouse! I’m doing pickup until after Christmas!

I stopped by CVS on the way home from knitting and it was VERY busy. Then around 4 I went to Brookshires and oh my! They were busy, busy, busy!! LOTS of people getting last minute shopping before Thanksgiving. I had everything for lunch Thursday but I needed to do regular shopping today so I could get the Sr. Citizens discount. LOL There are good things about being old! LOL

Sounds like a near-perfect day to me! I am like you–don’t like going out at all. I was so thankful to have only one medical appt this week…the older we get, the harder it is to do any running around. I do like to pick my own produce and meat so it’s going to be hard to let someone else do that for me. I am lucky that my son and DIL will pick up anything we need, but I’m not ready to be dependent on them quite yet. Thankfully, however, our son does take my husband for all his procedures…I can’t tell you how much we appreciate that.
