The charts had gotten out of control. I store them in bins and, for the most part, I didn’t have trouble finding them when I needed one. I have three bins of charts, one bin that has charts that are kitted with fabric and floss, though the floss is in boxes stacked in alphabetical order by chart name and I keep those in the sewing room closet. I have a list of charts that are kitted so if they’re on that list, I can go right to that bin and find them.
Since I hadn’t added a lot of new charts throughout most of the year, I’ve mostly either gotten a new chart in and started working on it or pulled charts from the kitted bin but with the new charts I’ve added lately, I was feeling a bit frustrated.
Yesterday about mid-day, I pulled all three bins out and emptied them. I organized them all by designer. Some of the charts have linen with them but no floss so they’re in these bins. Some of the bags had just a chart. If they had linen with them, I left them in the bag but if it was just a chart, I combined charts so that in the Teresa Kogut section, there are charts that have linen and they’re all in separate bags but otherwise, all the Teresa Kogut charts are in one bag. As I was going through them, I checked to make sure all the charts were listed in the X-Stitch Plus app and added any that were not already entered into the app.
I got most of the charts organized – Plum Street, The Scarlett House, Teresa Kogut, Heartstring Samplery, Blackbird, With Thy Needle, etc. In the end, I loaded up a lot of the charts that I only had one or two per designer, stuck them all in a bin and will finish organizing those later.
I went through all the kits to make sure I had Three Things Sampler, Smith Sampler and And A Forest Grew ready. I could not find Three Things Sampler. I knew I had the fabric and the floss pulled. I looked and looked. I had told Vince we would have dinner at 3 . . which was going to be leftover Creamy Wild Rice & Chicken soup and a salad but at 3:30, I was still searching for Three Things Sampler. I decided I’d go up, get dinner done, come back, order a new chart, and floss and never admit to having done that.
As I was leaving the living room, I saw another bin. I had moved it to a spot where Oscar was getting into things so the bin blocked his entry and I had stacked other things on top so he wouldn’t go over the storage bin. I grabbed that bin and the first thing I saw was the Three Things Sampler kit. That made me happy. I took it out, put it in the other bin with the other two charts for the upcoming SAL and was happy I wasn’t going to have to order that chart! I put the lid back on the bin and put it back where it had been. I’ll have to go through that one another day too.
I’m probably 3/4 done with the organizing. I think spending so much of the day messing with that will help me not buy many charts next year!

You must be sprier than me. I could never get up from the floor after the amount of time you must have been organizing. Bravo for getting thru it!

Having Oscar has helped me with my movements. I used to could barely get onto the floor and it was even harder to get up but 9 months of playing with him on the floor and I’m feeling pretty good about getting up and down on the floor.
