Because we both are always looking for bargains, I will try to remember to share them here when I come across them. Let’s be clear – I understand that not everyone shops at Walmart and some wouldn’t go there if it was the last place on earth selling groceries. I get it but for some of us, we go wherever we get the best price, especially these days. You don’t have to tell me that you’ll never shop at Walmart . . that’s your choice. Most of the bargain prices I’ll share will be either Walmart or Aldi because that’s pretty much all we have here. I also understand that not everyone has an Aldi nearby. The house next to me may be for sale soon. 🙂 You’re going to hear that til it sells because I really, really want a neighbor that cooks, cross stitches, loves dogs – especially snippy little dachshunds, and I’m sure there are other requirements to become my neighbor. It would be super nice if you have a husband with a boat or something to keep Vince occupied! 🙂
Walmart (and Aldi) are having a roll back on traditional Thanksgiving food items. One item is canned green beans. It’s the Great Value brand, which is about all I buy when buying canned goods. They’re fine. They have the 14.5 oz. cans for .50. I usually buy those but I was looking for something online last night and saw that they have the 28 oz. can for .88. That’s a bit better deal and even when it’s just the two of us, I’ll cook the whole can but remove half of them and save them for the next day or so.
The only thing I don’t like about the big cans is that they have the pull top. I prefer the cans that require a can opener but I still stocked up on those 28 oz. cans.

Judy, I just looked and the great value 14.5 ounce are now 50¢ and the 28 ounce are 88¢ a can. I might have to stock up on those also. That is a real good price now days for beans. I am fortunate as my son does contract security for Walmart so he can do my curbside pick ups. Thanks for the heads up.

You are so right. That’s exactly what I meant to say. Too many things going on at once. I’ve corrected the post. Thanks.

I love green beans and am so sad that I can’t eat them any more. But keep telling me, because there may be something I CAN have that you find!

It was just yesterday I had a peel it can. They are hard for these old hands to pull the tab. Much prefer to use my can opener. And much less likely cut a finger.
I use Walmart and Aldi green beans and if you cook them with a very little minced onion and olive oil for about 15 minutes we think they are as good as more pricey beans.

Even though they have the pop top cans–I tend to still use my can opener to open them. Beans aren’t real bad because everything you can get out of them. But canned soup, or other stuff you can’t get it all out because of the lip. Also I have seen too many of those pop top types fail and explode vs the completely sealed cans don’t seem to have that problem. They think it’s convenient–well really it isn’t.

Hi
ring pull cans are the bane of my life and my husbands, so I never pull them, we have an electric can opener that deals with every type of can, even those pesky ‘key’ opener cans. No sharp edges and the can opener hold the tin until you remove it, so no accidents of an open can hitting the counter tops. Wouldn’t part with it and they are such a reasonable cost.
