A reader, who has become a good online friend, Pat, and I were talking a couple of weeks about about new charts she had found that she wanted to get. I think she’s like most of us and doesn’t need new charts but sometimes you find one or two you just have to have.
The one she found was Only One Rose by Hands Across the Sea. I thought I had it but sometimes I think about buying a chart, put it in my cart, take it out, put it back so you never know. I do try to add the charts to the X-Stitch Plus app as soon as it arrives. Yes, it was listed as a chart I have.
I searched my emails and found that I had ordered a floss packet for Only One Rose so that told me I do have the chart.
I told Pat that I would stitch it with her “if I can find it”. I had bought it in February or March, 2021 and at that time, I was putting them in a cabinet upstairs but I later transferred those to a storage ottoman. I searched all the ottomans I have that have charts and couldn’t find it. I searched them several times. The first time, I was looking for one of the Hands Across the Sea spiral bound charts, which I figured would be in a project bag with the floss. Nope, couldn’t find it anywhere.
After several hours over a couple of days, I decided . . heck . . I’ll just ordered another chart. That’s when I realized it was available as a pdf, maybe ONLY as a pdf so I wouldn’t have a paper chart. After all that time of searching, I found it in my cross stitch files on the computer.
Next, Pat and I started talking about when we could stitch this one. The stitch count is 198 x 134, so it isn’t huge, though there may be a lot of color changes. If stitched on 40 count linen, the piece should measure 9.90″ x 6.70″.
We decided to make it an Election Day SAL and we’ll start it on November 8. Since it’s a pdf, if any of you want to get it and stitch along with us, you can instantly get the chart. It’s charted for Soie 100.3 but also includes Soie d’alger and DMC. We’re planning to have an Election Day SAL for all major elections. We’ll choose our favorite charts and stitch them together and we’d love to have others stitch along with us.
Since this one is fairly short notice and we’re not strict about “rules”, I’d say if anyone wants to do an Election Day SAL with us, choose any Hands Across the Sea chart. They have many charts that are available as pdfs. Here’s a good starting spot if you’re looking for a HATS pdf chart.

I’m in! I went and looked at their site and purchased Only One Rose. It’s so lovely! I will need to go get floss. I will see what Shepherd’s Bush has in stock as I’d love to use the silks…if they don’t have what I need there is always DMC. Great excuse to visit the shop! I will likely use a 32 or 36 count linen depending on what I have…or one of my dyed 18 count aidas.

Every time you mention going to Shepherd’s Bush, I get jealous! Whatever floss or fabric you use, I’m sure it will be beautiful!

Love the idea of an Election day SAL and I have a few HATS charts. They are so beautiful! I’m thinking of doing Marie Louise Piret.
