When Vince and I first got married, or maybe it was after I started blogging and using the computer more, he could never understand how I destroyed computers so fast. I don’t think I’ve ever dropped a computer (can’t say the same for phones). There were a few Dr. Pepper in the keyboard incidents but probably not more than two or three times. Otherwise, they just stop working and I never know why.
In late November, 2021 Vince ordered this little 11″ Lenovo Chromebook for about $150. I love this little tablet. The ad calls it a laptop but I think of it more as a tablet. I love that it folds in half and I can have it sitting on my lap and use it for Pattern Keeper and have a larger working area than when using a smaller tablet.
It takes a little getting used to because it’s small and my fingers can’t seem to find “home”. Once I get used to using it, it’s hard to use the keyboard on the 14.5″. I much prefer the 11″ tablet.
I had the Lenovo for maybe two months and Vince was determined I needed a larger laptop and he bought a 14.5″ laptop. I have kept the larger one downstairs and the smaller one upstairs. I’ve mostly used the smaller one for just when I’m upstairs cooking, waiting for water to boil, etc. I use the larger one for all the blog posts, email, research, ordering (maybe it’s the ordering . . that’s probably a bit overwhelming!). 🙂
Over the past few days, I would think the larger laptop was fully charged and before long, it would tell me to plug it in. Last night I left it plugged in all night. We were gone for about three hours this morning and when I started using it this afternoon, I got the “plug it in” notice. I plugged it in and it wasn’t charging. I checked to be sure everything was plugged in – strip was plugged in, cord was plugged into the strip. Nope, not working. I plugged the cord directly into the wall. Nope, not working. I knew the plug was working because my lamp is plugged into the strip and it’s working. Just to be sure, I plugged the laptop into another outlet. Nope, not charging. I got a different cord. Nope, not charging. By then, it was completely dead.
I find it hard going between the 11″ and 14.5″ keyboard so I’d be really happy if I just keep the one Lenovo tablet but Vince said the other one is still under warranty. He’ll check on it tonight.
It’s kinda scary not having a backup . . especially as often as I need a backup!

Make sure battery is seated properly or replace it.

Vince takes care of all that so he’ll look at it hopefully tonight.

Fingers crossed it’s an easy fix (almost sounds like the battery doesn’t want to charge anymore).

That’s what it sounds like to me too. Vince may have a chance to look at it tonight.

I was having a problem with mine and I had to keep it plugged in all the time or the battery would not work. I plugged it in and it was fine. Our friend works on laptops and computers and he told me to be sure to keep the air vents on the bottom from touching anything solid. Make sure there was air circulation under it! Well, now it works. The battery is not that good now, but I can still use it with the plug and without it. He said he put pencils under his wife’s so she would not have it flat on the table. I now have a small box that is wide enough for the laptop to sit on, but there is ventilation and air circulation! Something so small can cause something major!

My husband used to tell me that I should get a job with Dell just mucking up their computers so that they could figure out how to fix it. I try really hard not to ask him to be my IT guy anymore.

I understand completely! My husband tells me I can destroy anything electronic without even trying. Nothing I get ever lasts… I’m electronically cursed. 🙁 I’m on my third computer in 3 years… The one I got to replace the last one I destroyed, my backup place can’t even figure how to back it up because the computer ID number doesn’t come up as a computer…I’m hopeless. 🙂

Yes, if I get one year out of a computer, I feel like I’m doing great. Inexpensive computers; expensive computers . . it doesn’t matter. Vince usually looks for good sales around Christmas to order me a new one . . whether I need it or not because he knows it’s just a matter of time.

We only use Apple products. They never stop working, just eventually become obsolete. We have two desk tops and an iPad. Oh yes and one made in the early 90’s, it still runs fine, technology has just left it behind.

Yes, but for what I need/use, I can buy a heck of a lot of $159 laptops for the price of an Apple. I have an iPad only because I use it for Knit Companion which doesn’t work on Android devices.
