In addition to baking the bread yesterday, I made brownies. It was just a box mix but . . still something else to bake.
Saturday evening Vince said “Brownies would be nice!” He had worked so hard on the deck and he deserved brownies but I had dug up all the sweet potatoes, used most of the straw from the bales as mulch over the garlic, onions and rhubarb, added some to another bed that needs to be built up a bit and I pulled out most of the pepper plants. I was tired . . too tired to think about making brownies.
Yesterday when I finished the bread, my feet were aching but I told myself . . you can’t stop til you make brownies.
Recently I made brownies using blood orange infused olive oil for the oil and they were so good. I have cherry olive oil and I was going to use that but Vince said nope . . plain brownies please. I ended up making plain brownies, pouring about 2/3rds of the batter in the pan, then adding cherry extract to the rest of the batter and pouring it into the rest of the pan. I stuck some cherries on top of the batter on that side so I’d know which side was mine and . . who doesn’t love cherries with brownies?
Vince was out moving dirt away from the bottom of the fence. He’s going to try to stain the fence when he finishes the deck . . if the weather cooperates. He came in and said “Do I smell brownies?” Happy spouse/happy house! 🙂

Those brownies look so good, but the cherries look like a cat walked right across the top of them. lol I always use coconut oil in brownies instead of vegetable oil, which seems to give them just an extra bit of flavor.. Love your blog, and you and Vince are like treasured friends. Thanks for sharing your lives with us all.

Thanks for the kind words and for the tip. I’ll try coconut oil next time.

Brownies are really the only chocolate I really like – and caramel turtle brownies are my favorite – but I think your cherry ones would soon vie for at least a tie with that! BUT it is your bread that looks so amazing I can almost smell it!

I always use real butter in place of the oil in a mix, it gives it a better taste.
