Yesterday Vince finished the compost bin and I love it!
I wish cedar would never lose its smell! When I walk out into the back yard, I can smell cedar.
The bin is 40″ x 50″ so we can chop all our leaves and all the leaves I can manage to scrounge from neighbors.
See the little trough on the side there? That’s on both sides and the boards you see leaning against the fence fit down into that channel and that makes a “door” of sorts. I can put the boards in to close it all the way up to the top or just put a few boards in. A neighbor has a similar bin and he hasn’t had any problems with critters getting in. We’ll see. We may have to use some kind of chicken wire or hardware cloth to eep critters out. Time will tell.
Those are the boards for the door. Vince is going to lay those out flat so the wood can dry and shrink a bit before he trims them down a bit. They’re a bit snug now but we know when the wood dries, it will shrink. Vince had the boards milled at an Amish mill north of here and we’ve had them for over a year but they were stacked flat, all on top of each other so they haven’t dried very well.
Now I’m really ready for leaves to fall so we can start working on our compost for next year’s garden.

That’s what I need! My garden isn’t very productive anymore. I did just pile about 12″ of grass clippings on it. If I had a pickup, I’d go get some free cow poop. lol

That should greatly help your garden.
