One of the blog readers is going to stitch Smith Sampler by The Scarlett House next year and I asked her if she wanted to stitch it with me. Stop laughing! You know how my stitch alongs always don’t go so well but I think I’m getting better.
This is probably one of the first sampler charts I bought when I started back to cross stitching. It was near the end of 2020 when I took the leap back into cross stitchingand this chart was purchased in December, 2020. I also ordered the silk floss at that time. I’m sure that’s the first silk floss I bought.
I’ve been back and forth about which linen to use. I had three different pieces in the project bag.
I don’t have the called for linen and it’s one that’s very hard, maybe impossible, to get but I’m happy to use something I have here. Everything I had here seemed to be too tan/brown. A good while back,I saw someone was stitching this on Colour & Cotton’s Boardwalk and I thought that was a great color and I happened to have some of that.
I think this looks very much like the fabric used in the sample. The fabric is a been greener/gray than it looks in the photo.
All the floss should show up just fine.
The stitch count is 193 x 273. On 40 count linen, it should be about 9-3/4″ x 13-3/4″. It isn’t so big but there’s a lot of stitching and a lot of color changes so I think it will take a while for me to stitch but it’s so beautiful and I can’t wait to start it.
When Vince was living in Georgia, we used to love to eat at a place called Smith House so, between The Scarlett House and Smith Sampler, I’ll probably call this The Smith House the entire time I’m stitching it.
Of course I’m excited to get started but my blog reader friend is going to look at her schedule, then she will come up with a date and this will be a 2023 project.
If anyone else wants to stitch with us, we’d be happy to have you.

If you’re talking about the Smith House in Dahlonega, it is still there!
Is the Smith Sampler stitched on Lakeside Vintage Autumn Gold? You can get on a list at the Attic Needlework in Mesa, AZ (on of the best if not the best shop in the country) to get Lakeside. It takes a while but it eventually happens. The Autumn Gold is double dyed so it is pricier.
