This time of year is when I’m ready to be done with the garden, ready to pull the scraggly plants out but yet they’re still producing enough that I know to leave them alone.
Yesterday I picked about 5 pounds of jalapeno peppers. I’ll make some pepper jelly and freeze dry some of the peppers for using during the winter. The poblano peppers are covered in small peppers and blooms. I showed Vince and he said “Oh, good! We can make chile rellenos and freeze them.” I said “Did I hear you say WE? What part are you going to do?” He said “I’ll wash the peppers!” 🙂
The peppers will produce great til frost so I’ll leave them.
The eggplants are really looking tired and sad but Saturday I picked these four and then yesterday found two more big ones I had missed. So, they’ll stay a while longer. They’re still blooming but anything not already at last halfway ready to pick is probably not going to make it.
I have garlic to plant after the first frost. The peppers will be gone so I can pull them out and plant garlic. The sweet potatoes will be gone so I can pull all them out and plant something there.
I’ve planted cabbage in some of the grow bags and have planted other greens in five of the larger grow bags. I pulled all the tomatoes out and planted peas in those buckets because there’s a wire there for them to climb on.
I miss having the large garden but yet I don’t – too much work.

Yes, I love that “we” word–NOT!

If you are looking for something to do with the eggplant, I found this recipe for Eggplant Salsa. It was delicious. It’s not spicy so you might want to kick it up a notch.
