August has ended and Scarlett September begins for me today. Many are doing Sampler September but someone mentioned on Facebook that they were doing Scarlett September, which means stitching only charts from The Scarlett House, and that struck a cord with me.
I’ll talk more about Scarlett September in another post but for now, here’s where I left off on Ellen Carr.
I knew I wasn’t going to finish this but this is exactly where I had hoped to end for now. I was not wanting to have to mess with re-designing the bottom part of that border and I’m about 16 stitches (I’ll have to count again later, from having this piece be exactly the size of the original design so what I’m going to do is add this little row beneath the words I added:
If you look at that row in the chart, it starts on the right side and goes a little over halfway across the row. I’ll start this on the left side and have it go about 3/4 across the row, then leave room for my initials and the year. That way, the border will fit exactly as charted.
It was mentioned in a comment that my insects needed more color but the little dog is supposed to be Oscar and the little bug above him represents some little gray flying bug that aggravates the heck out of him and on the right represents the dragonflies that play with him. They are black with white tips on their wings so at least I got them to be the same colors.
Yesterday when we were out, there was a dragonfly halfway playing with Oscar but not nearly as committed as the first one had been. It is so cute to watch.
So, for now, I put this one away though I will get back to it because I want to get it finished. It will go onto my “Home” wall.

I love the changes you made to the chart. But I have a question, there’s no z in the alphabet or am I just missing it on the picture? I don’t know a whole lot about cross stitching so it’s been enjoyable looking at your charts and seeing the work that you’re doing.

There are often letters left out of the old samplers. The “I” or the “J” were the letters I’ve most often seen that were left out. The cover of the chart mentions the Z having been left out as well as a couple of wonky numerals in “1843” and the urn being off balance. I stitched it according to the reproduction, leaving off the Z but have left off her name and year.
