There’s probably no use in me trying to explain how happy I was when I found that Ziploc has half gallon freezer bags.
Sam’s Club has them too – same price as they are at Amazon. For the most part, I don’t use these for freezing but for storing. There are many times when a quart bag isn’t big enough, it seems wasteful to half fill a gallon bag . . these are perfect. I know . . it’s plastic. I don’t use them a lot but when I need them, I’m happy to have them.
Please – no lecture on saving the environment. As I’ve mentioned, we use solar panels for almost all our electricity. I fill up my car with gas less than 10 times a year (probably less than 6 times a year). Vince . . quite a bit more! 🙂 We grow as much of our veggies as we can and it’s all organic. I buy meat and eggs locally. Probably 90% of our clothes are hung on the line to dry. We do our part so a few plastic bags are an indulgence I do not feel guilty about.

I really dislike it when someone tries to put someone down when they found a way to make their life easier. I have recycled reused and redone almost everything my whole life. My mom and dad lived through the Depression and their life was always about reusing almost everything. I have grown up washing out plastic bags if they still are usable. I often will wash and dry aluminum foil if I am just lining a pan. When my kids were little we did not use disposable diapers, but we took old bread bags and brought soiled diapers home to rinse, soak and launder. We took a wet washcloth in an old bread bag to wipe the kids off and clean things up. Then we brought those home and wash them with a regular laundry. No wet wipes and baby wipes for us during those years.
When I go to the grocery store I very seldom take along my reusable bags because I love having the stores plastic bags to use in caring for my pets, lining my trash bags, etc.
When those young whippersnappers try to talk to us older folks about recycling, I laugh under my breath because they have no idea the things we’ve been doing our entire lives.
I’m going to have to look for these half gallon size plastic bags. Thanks so much for the tip!

I understand and we rarely know the full story.

Helen, you are so right, I too have done all the things you mentioned and more, we didn’t have all this disposable stuff growing up so when they stop using all their convenient things I’ll stop using the few conveniences I use!!!

You do a lot. Just because we don’t do everything is no reason not to celebrate what we do do. I rinse and reuse plastic. Use mesh bags for produce. Have reusable straws. Lots of other things. But there are areas I’m not so good at. One is taking long showers!

Except there’s always a million things to be done so I’m in and out of the shower pretty quick, I love taking long showers.

I love the 2 gallon for many reasons. They are hard to find so I buy 2-3 boxes when found. I will look for these half gallon.

It’s been forever since I saw 2 gallon but maybe I just haven’t been looking for them. Ahhh . . Sam’s has them so I ordered some. Thanks for the reminder about those.

lol no time to comment on sustainability. I am running to SAMs to get the bags! There are just times when I need a plastic bag. Maybe one of these scientist will figure out how to recycle plastic soon! 😉
