It’s a good thing Vince takes care of things like this because I’d lose my mind. When someone, especially a company, is blatantly dishonest with me, it just sends me over the edge. And, as Vince says . . I live darned close to the edge so it doesn’t take much to send me over. 🙂
Speaking of Vince and his words, you know that we move at different speeds. There’s nothing wrong with taking your time and being methodical, thinking things through . . for years . . unless your wife goes 100 mph non-stop and the minute something pops into her head, she wants it to happen NOW.
We were out working in the yard yesterday and I thought of something else I wanted to do. I was all excited and animated telling Vince about it. He looked at me, kinda scratched his chin (in slow motion) and said “The problem with YOU is that you have the mind of a 20 year old and the body of an 80 year old!” Huh? The body of an 80 year old? I think he means I get up thinking I can do a million things today and after thing #3, I need a nap.
Vince came home from town and immediately got to work on my cell phone and dehydrator problems.
Cell Phone:
Vince talked to FOUR different people. I’m sure he was on the phone at least hours. The first person looked everything up and said with glee “That phone is no longer under warranty!” Vince said “Yes, it is. We purchased it on 8/18/21 but it didn’t arrive and we didn’t take possession of it til 8/23.” The lady went on to tell him that he would have to either call Motorola or the insurance company. Vince asked to speak to a supervisor who said he could see all the calls we’ve made but since it’s an intermittent problem, there’s nothing they can do. It either works and I keep it or it never works and they replace it. Vince asked to speak to another supervisor who explained that the Motorola phone I have has a weak antennae (even though it’s the phone they recommended a year ago and have continued to tell me what a popular phone it is), suggested we use wifi and offered to walk us through connecting to wifi. At one point, the person asked me “Do you always use it in the same spot?” I said “Yes. I’ve sat in the same chair for a year now!” Vince told them “We use wifi calling when we’re in the house.” The guy said “You must be too far from the router.” Vince told him the router is in the same room as we are and then asked to speak to someone above him. This was a lady and she told Vince the phone had been ordered and it takes four business days to get it sent out. On further review, she decided that wasn’t true and they were not able to replace the phone. I think what happened is the guy we talked to last week did put in for a new phone and someone above him overruled the decision. The lady kept wanting to do all the troubleshooting all over again and Vince said no. We were sure they were just stalling trying to get past the warranty expiration. She finally told Vince that she had done all she could do. They couldn’t help us. Vince said “Fine, I hope it was worth losing a customer over.”
We’re talking about an inexpensive phone – probably only paid about $150 for it . . is it really worth losing two customers who has been with them four years when they can see how many times we’ve called about this issue?
Vince hung up from her, called Motorola, explained the situation and they said this particular company is really having lots of customer complaints – they’re hearing the same thing and what’s happening is if they replace the phone, it comes out of their inventory and it costs them some amount but if they can stall us past the warranty period or pawn us off on the insurance, it costs them nothing. In my opinion, it’s costing them at least $720 per year because we’re history and they couldn’t be paying more than $75 for that phone. In fact, they would be sending us a phone that someone bought, didn’t like for some reason (probably weak antenna) and returned. Motorola is sending us a new phone.
Vince and I went out, did some work in the yard, I cooked, we ate, I had just finished cleaning up the kitchen and Vince’s phone rang. it was the lady from the phone company. She said she had listened to the recordings of the last half dozen or so calls and she was going to send us a new phone. Vince said “Don’t bother. We’ve already signed up with someone else and will be canceling our service as soon as the new phones arrive.” Vince said she said “But . . I was just putting in the paper work for a new phone for you!” Vince told her “We’ve had enough . . we’re moving on”. In fact, we’ve already signed up with Visible Wireless and ordered two new phones. Folks who live around us seem to have better service with Verizon and Visible is the cheap wing of Verizon. We’ll get unlimited calls, texts, data and hotspot for $30 each, including taxes and fees and that’s less than we were paying plus we had a certain amount of data and if I was traveling or sitting in the car while Vince shopped much, we went over and had to pay an extra $10 so if this new service is decent, we’ll be paying less in the long run.
We can’t use the new Motorola phone they’re sending us because it’s just a replacement of my one year old phone which is not 5G and we need a 5G phone with Visible but we got phones for less than $200 each so . . we’re good. I’ll use it to take pictures, which is all day every day around here and that’s where there’s the biggest chance of it getting damaged – left out in the rain, dropped, etc.
Dehydrator:
I’ll believe it when it arrives but Vince got in touch with the dehydrator people and they say they’re sending us a brand new dehydrator. If they are and if it arrives, I’ll be very happy with that deal. I’ll let you know when/if it arrives.

Not sure who your phone company was but I can guess – I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent on the phone with them. A few years ago we switched to Consumer Cellular – love their customer service.

We did recommend them for many years but no more.

Glad that it looks like your troubles are about to be solved but wow, that was an incredible amount of hassle to go through!! It boggles the mind that they had recordings of all the calls you had to deal with and still took forever for them to offer to “do the right thing”!!! We’ve had Verizon for almost 20 years and have been happy with them. Hope the dehydrator comes through!!
