The fence guys only had a couple of hours of work left so they were gone probably shortly after 10 a.m.
Last night I was thinking . . if I asked y’all to draw what you think our fence looks like, everyone would probably draw something totally different because my descriptions were so crazy and it’s so hard to take pictures without getting neighbors’ houses in there. Where’s that 45 acres when I need it??
Here are a few pictures that might give you a better idea (like anyone cares!) but I think even the wonky front area turned out really nice.
Let’s see that wonky front area first.
Here it is looking from the outside. Probably hard to see but it goes down to Vince’s shop just outside the second window so both those windows got included inside the fence. It starts at the house and ended up being about 2′ from the a/c unit so that’s good. Then it turns, goes towards the back, turns again, and then there’s a gate and then it goes back to Vince’s shop. I don’t think it looks bad at all. No one really sees that side anyway.
Here’s what it loos like up near the stairs from inside the fence.
Another view from inside the fence.
Here’s where the fence picks up again on the back side of the shop. You can see the neighbor’s shop back there behind ours.
The fence goes across the back, down the north side of the lot, then back to the house. You can see the two windows right there on the ground that I had wanted included in the fence. The fence was going to go just to the back corner of the house and we kept talking about it and moved that part of the fence up to include those windows.
The fence makes such a difference in making me feel like we’re “home” and not living out in the middle of a football stadium with spectators. I know . . no one looks at us, no one cares what we’re doing but now we have privacy. I told Vince today – of the things we’ve done, except for the gas stove, this makes the most difference to me.
Next project – the basement family room doesn’t have a ceiling fan so Vince ordered one of those just now and he’ll get that put up. I’m hoping for more raised beds. I keep mentioning a chicken coop. Vince pretends he doesn’t even hear me . . I don’t see me ever getting chickens but I can continue to hope.

This is great! Maybe now Oscar can run in this yard without a leash!

We have a little dirt work today and put the “no dig” fencing in some spots but I think he’ll be able to run and play soon.

Fence looks great Oscar should love it in there. Also it looks like there would be space in a corner for a chicken coop and run when maybe Oscar is a bit older and not so wild so he does not scare them to death.

If I had chickens, I’d probably put them outside the fence and build a fence for them. I don’t see Vince ever agreeing to chickens though. 🙁

I think it looks fantastic! They did a really nice job! Any photos of your raised beds in relation to the fence?

Tomorrow I’ll try to get some pictures of where my current beds are and where we’re going to build more raised beds. The ground is so rocky here, we pretty much can only garden with raised beds. Our garden guru has been here for the last three hours talking about what we should plant. He’s more into native plants and but he’s accepted that the back yard is mostly going to be veggies and edibles. Our thoughts are starting to come together and if I can add two or three raised beds per year, I’ll be pretty happy.

The fence looks great! Oscar is going to love all that room to run. How did Vince’s self watering business jets work out? We need a picture of those also.
Deborah Stokes says
I meant the buckets he constructed to self water.

They did ok. This has been a terrible year for tomatoes for everyone. My friend who always has a good garden said he’s gotten two edible tomatoes. I have gotten a few more than that but it’s been way too hot. Tomatoes stop setting fruit when the nights don’t cool down below 75 degrees and they completely stop producing much over 85. I think it’s been over 85 since I planted them. This summer has been unbelievable hot. It seems like things in the garden either thrived or shriveled and the tomatoes definitely did not thrive. I had planted two plants in the raised beds. Last year I got enough tomatoes to make salsa and freeze dried about 10 gallons of tomatoes. This year, nothing to save and the two tomatoes in the raised beds never produced a tomatoe.

It looks great!! I understand about privacy! We have a 6ft chain link fence and I don’t like being out in the garden and have everyone being able to watch me out there working. Vinyl fences are the becoming norm in our neighborhood so we’ll probably go that route eventually but it’s lower on the list at the moment.
judy.blog@gmail.com says
The problem with vinyl here is hail damage. We thought about vinyl but with the house being mostly white vinyl, and the potential for hail damage, we went with the wood but there’s a house I pass on the way to Chad’s that put up a new white vinyl fence and I liked it so much I had Vince drive out there to look at it but the wood won out for us.

I didn’t think about hail! I can see it would be a problem in the midwest. We rarely get hail but we do get straight-line wind storms on occasion. The wind storms can be hours of wind gusts 50+ mph but the one section that would be of concern is very short so my husband thinks it will be fine.
