The guys made good progress today. These pictures may give you a little more perspective . . maybe not. I try so hard not to include neighbors’ homes in the pictures so that makes it a little tricky.
This is the north side of the house. There are two windows you can’t see for the tree but they’re in the sewing room and they are windows I always worried about a deer running through. It’s happened to friends who had windows that were near the ground and they would have lights on at dusk and a deer would run right through the window. I’d have a heart attack. The fence is only 6′ tall so a deer can jump the fence and then go through the window .. why did I have to think about that? Anyway, I wanted both those windows inside the fence. There’s a walk through gate on that west part of the fence towards the house. Vince had them build a panel on the far right corner so if we ever really have to get a truck back there, we can remove that one panel. I didn’t want another drive thru gate there so this will be the next best thing.
The big oak trees are just inside the road right-of-way, then the Little Giants (smaller trees) are 10′ inside the trees and the fence is 6′ from the Little Giants.
Here’s the area that caused so much trouble. The short stairs and the a/c got included and the gate I had wanted there didn’t get included. Once they knew where the electric lines came in, they had to make some changes.
This picture is looking down towards the shop. There’s a walk thru gate right up almost against the building, then a bit of space, maybe 3′, and a drive thru gate. We had to leave room for a work truck to get between the solar panels (to the right of the above picture) and the fence. We did get both shop windows inside the fence.
This is from near Vince’s shop looking back up at that area near the a/c. The walk thru gate is about in the middle of that piece going towards the house.
This is looking along the back property line towards the shop.
Tomorrow, if it isn’t storming, they’ll get the boards up and be done.
The rain held off til almost 8 p.m. The workers leave at 3 p.m. so they weren’t affected. They told Vince they’d be back tomorrow “as soon as the rain stops” so I guess they don’t work in the rain. Can’t say that I blame them.
Anyway . . hope that gives a better idea of what I’ve been trying to explain.
By the way . . there was a casualty today.
Vince had to take down the clothesline so the equipment could get up to dig the holes. He said “It will take 5 minutes to put it back together again!”
This picture my give you a better idea of why we were struggling to figure out where to put things. Everything comes in right there. Vince ended up cutting down one big shrub. If I had my way, he would take them all out. You know my rule – it has to bloom or provide food or it can’t stay. Those bushes may have some wimpy bloom but I’m talking about colorful, smell good type blooms.
Beyond that remaining bush is a big clump of river birch trees. Any fence past that shrub would run into those trees and from there going towards the front, there’s another tiered retaining wall.
I think the fence is going to be great. I’ll plant something . . maybe another elderberry bush – something that grows fast and blooms and provides food and that will soften that corner.
Next time you see the fence, it should be complete!

That’s going to be so great. Oscar will love being able to run and play. Get the balls ready!

Everything is looking good and thinking things out looks like it paid off! I agree completely with your shrub “rule”!!!
