Yesterday we had planned to go to Nevada to have lunch with Chad and Nicole. They had Nicole’s parents and several other couples over. Chad smoked chickens, grilled burgers and hot dogs and it was nice.
A friend’s dad has fruit trees and he had told us we could come by and get some peaches so we did that before going to Chad’s. I had made two loaves of blueberry lemon bread on Friday – one for us and one for the friend’s dad so we took that to him. The man also had pears that had fallen off the tree and weren’t ripe yet so he told me I could have those if I wanted them. I’ll cut them up and start a large batch of pear vinegar today.
It was probably 3 p.m. when we got back home. I was tired. Vince was tired so we took a nap. Vince woke up before I did and wanted to go to Walmart in Carthage so I got up, we took the dogs for a quick walk and headed to Walmart. It was about 5:30, which is way later than we’re usually out.
On the way home, Vince asked if I wanted to get something to eat while we were out. Nothing sounded great but then I remembered the Hibachi food truck in Carthage. I love food trucks of any kind and Vince doesn’t but he agreed to try it.
It was a lot of food and neither of us finished it all so we’ll have leftovers for lunch and probably a sandwich for dinner.
Our neighbor with the garden came over last night while I was out watering and brought me two buckets of okra and enough yellow squash for a couple of meals.
My plans for today are:
- Wash the okra, cut it up and put it in the freezer on freeze dryer trays til I have enough for a full load.
- Cut up the pears and get the vinegar to brewing.
- Remove the elderberries from the stems (the ones I put in the freezer on Friday) and cut any ripe elderberries, rinse them and put them in the freezer.
I think the plan for dinner is to grill steaks. I’ll make something to go with the steaks and otherwise, I’m going to hopefully get to cross stitch quite a bit today since I didn’t get any stitching done Friday or yesterday.
