Not that it matters but . . today Vince asked me if I had the estimate from the electricians. I said “Yes, they sent it to my email and I forwarded it to you but I can get it”, which I did.
Look at this little section of the estimate:
So . . the electricians should have known there was supposed to be a switch, albeit on a post when I really wanted it inside the garage so I don’t have to go outside to turn them on and off. You will be able to see those lights from the road and that’s about as festive as it gets around here so I’ll probably turn them on and leave them on most evenings, even if we aren’t outside.
Vince had to tell them we wanted a switch or they would never have known to put it on the estimate.
Where did this “You never told me you wanted a switch” come from and why did the electricians look at me like I was crazy when I said “Where’s the switch going to be?”
I don’t even remember the conversation Vince and I had when we were making plans for the lighting. Probably, I said “I want lights up there and electric plugs” and Vince said “How are you going to turn the lights on and off?” and I probably said “A switch” but that’s a lot of speculating. All I know for sure is that the estimate, dated 7/22 talks about a switch!
OK . . we’ll put this issue to rest. No more discussing it.

Oh my – I thought we were the only ones who had these issues. ( people just don’t really have pride in their jobs anymore) we just went through having to redo what the first people did – All over again and the contractor was paid well..,,

I think, at least for us, the electric company we used is good and reputable. I think they’re having a hard time finding competent employees. One guy they sent out was good. He obviously knew what he was doing, went above and beyond and found things that I don’t think the other guy would ever have found. The other guy was nice, seemed honest and trustworthy but . . wouldn’t be my first choice to get a job done. I have a feeling they estimated 1-1/2 days to do everything and it took 3-1/2 days. Nothing was added, since the switch was for my lights was included on the estimate, so we’ll see if our bill is the same or close to the estimate.

It seems like, at times, we women have to stand over the work being done and ask questions and direct the men doing the work because they seem to “tune out” WHY they are actually doing the job. They simply stop thinking of the end result and concentrate on just the next step. Eventually they leave off the last few steps and forget the planned end result, thinking they’ve been there long enough/someone else will finish it.
I’m so glad you now have all the light you want and that there will lights up there “for all seasons!”
