Thankfully my day got better yesterday!
Family Grain Mill:
It was in early 2008 that I ordered the Family Grain Mill. I used it for about 8 years before getting the KoMo Classic Grain Mill. There were several reasons I bought the Family Grain Mill. First, it is electric but it came with a hand crank so it could be used with no electricity. I think the configuration has changed somewhat now and there are all kinds of options. Back in 2008, it was pretty basic as I recall – the electric motor base, the hand base, and the grain head. The reasons I chose that mill at the time were (1) it would grind grains fine enough for bread, (2) it has steel burrs so it doesn’t get as hot (which isn’t good for the milled flour) and the cost but the main reason was the hand crank so I can still mill flour without power.
In late 2015 or early 2016 I got the KoMo Classic mill. This is a stone burr mill (vs. the Family Grain Mill’s steel burr). I bought the KoMo because it is much faster than the Family Grain Mill, but more importantly, it will grind much finer and much coarser grain. I don’t even know how many settings either of them have but I feel like the KoMo has at least 5 times as many settings and definitely grinds finer than does the Family Grain Mill. But, I wanted to keep the Family Grain Mill because of being able to use it without power.
With the blackouts and wondering about the reliability of our power, I started looking for the Family Grain Mill. You know how it goes . . I knew exactly where it was in Texas but could not find it here. I found the hand crank attachment and they should have been together but they weren’t and that concerned me. I asked Vince if he remembered anything about where it might be. He said “All I know is I packed everything!” I knew he had but where was that thing? I tried to describe to him what it looked like, then found a picture online and showed him. He said when it gets cooler, he’d look for it in the storage buildings.
For about three months, I’ve been on the lookout for that grain mill. Yesterday, I was moving some things around in a closet off the breakfast room and there was the grain mill. Unboxed, sitting on the shelf. Obviously I put it there when I first got here. I’m guessing I brought both grain mills with me because I wanted to be sure they stayed safe.
So glad to know where that thing is. I ground a little grain with it and it still works like a champ.
Bosch Blender:
It took a while to find my Bosch mixer but we did find it but I hadn’t been able to find the blender. I had asked Vince about that also. I told him it was probably in a box that had the pitcher part of the blender on the picture. He brought in a NutriBullet that had never been opened. I surely don’t remember buying that! Later he found an Aldi blender that I have no idea why we have but he never found the Bosch blender.
Yesterday afternoon, he walked in with this and said “Is this something you want to keep?” WHAT?? That’s the blender I’ve been looking for! Yes I want to keep it!”
Here’s the mixer (along with those horrible countertops I started out with in Texas). The blender fits on that little column on the back right. I don’t need the blender now, as I have a nice blender, but I have it and I wanted to know where it is so now I’m happy. Vince said it was just sitting out in the garage on a shelf.
Will we ever get everything found and in its place? I doubt it!

There are probably things still packed from when we moved here in 1982!!

I don’t think we have stuff packed from that far back. We had a house fire in 1992 so I know I have nothing packed from before that but we will probably always have too much unpacked.
