In this post last week, I talked about some of the notions I had received from Purple Hobbies and how much I loved them. Here’s one more thing I am using every day and loving.
This one is called the hand sewing companion. Here, you can see all of the colors and other options for adding additional sizes of boxes to make it a little stacking unit.
This little box just makes me happy!
I have a really bad habit of sticking needles in the arm of my chair. Even with a needle minder on my project, I don’t like having extra needles on there, whether they’re threaded or unthreaded. With Oscar jumping on my chair and able to get things off the table next to my chair, anywhere there’s a needle, there’s a risk of Oscar being injured. The table on one side of my chair has open shelves and he’s learned from day one that there are good things in there . . he grabs something and I’ll chase him and that’s what life is all about for him . . a good chase! Me . . I’m not so fast any more and catching him is almost impossible unless I have a way to trick him!
The table on the other side of my chair has one small drawer and it really isn’t big enough to stuff the floss, the project and the needles into. So many times I get up for one second that turns into half an hour; I don’t put my project totally out of Oscar’s reach and it really is a disaster waiting to happen.
This little box has slots for six needles and I could probably add more than six needles. It’s magnetic so they stick. The lid has not opened when I’ve dropped it because I wanted to see if Oscar grabbed it to run with it, if he could open it. I’m not saying he absolutely never could open it but I don’t see it happening.
You can see by looking at pictures on the website that you can add tall and short boxes, which are all magnetized and they clip together nicely.
And, a small pair of scissors will slip into the opening at the end of this box. It’s all magnetized so the scissors stay in place.
They will hold bobbins, or spools like Sulky or Aurafil thread. Above you will see that I was able to place my Victoria Clayton bobbins in the tall box. So nice for taking on trips!
This really is a perfect hand sewing companion. Don’t forget that these would make a great unique Christmas gift for your stitching friends and who doesn’t want to get those gifts purchased early?

I just got my order from them yesterday; now I wish I had ordered this (I did have my eye on it)!
Hope your foot is better soon!
