I’ll admit that there is no reason to have more than two freezers. You know our situation from week before last when one of the freezers stopped working. We have a freezer that’s probably 15 years old. We bought it when we first moved to Missouri in 2007. Then when we were in Texas, we needed a second freezer so we bought another one and that was probably 10 years ago. That’s the freezer that stopped working week before last. Because the oldest freezer has given some signs that it may be on its last leg so we bought a new freezer about six months ago.
With the second freezer not working, we had to buy a new freezer which should be delivered this week. Then Vince decided he wasn’t giving up on the old freezer yet. I told him . . we don’t need it with the new one coming and I’ll never trust it again so please get rid of it.
Vince pulled it out in the driveway and plugged it in and the darned thing works. In fact, it’s -10 in there and that’s the coldest of all our freezers but . . it is empty where the other two are stuffed way too full right now.
It is so nice to open a freezer and have space! That’s a luxury I’ll probably never have again.
A freezer repairman is going to be here this morning to look at this one and we’ll see what he has to say about it and go from there. I think it’s still getting too hot on the outside but we’ll let the expert see what he thinks.

I have a freezer in a storage building that we have had for 32 yreas. OK we donot open it hardly ever and it has lots of ice. But it still works fine.
My daughter has a small one that my brother had till he died in 2015 and she put it outside and the pole holding the roof up fell over on it when the tornado went thorugh and tore the roof off in March. She plugged it in when she got it out and had time. It works!
My Mother.s in her house is at keast 20 and it is working fine.
No telling how long it will keep going

My 24 year old freezer had its temp alarm go off last week, or we wouldn’t have known it was dying until there was water on the floor. We bought a new one right away, but they couldn’t deliver it until the 26th! Happily, my sister and brother-in-law have a pickup, and helped us haul the new one home and hauled the old one away. Otherwise I would have lost the whole contents.
I asked the salesman what the life expectancy of a freezer is these days. She replied that they say 7-12 years, but she’s had people buying again after 5… and she says they are all like that now. The new one doesn’t have a built in temp alarm. I didn’t know separate alarms were a thing until I saw your post. We bought one right away! Thanks for posting about that!

Isn’t it ridiculous how things just aren’t meant to last any longer? I’m so glad you had a way to get the new freezer home quickly. I hope the new ones lasts longer than we’re thinking they will.
